my 96 tahoe
had the green stuff in it when i bought it in nov. '04, the previous owner followed all the maintanance and carried it to the dealership for this maintanance. my local dealer has all the records on file of what was done to my truck...one of them being a coolant flush and refill and they put the green stuff in it. i asked them about it because i bought an extended warranty with the truck and they told me it was ok ,as i was worried, because it said to use dex-cool only. they said they had had alot of problems with the dex-cool, didn't say what kind of problems but did say it had problems...
and they also told me the green and orange together would gel!..the previous owner was a woman pharmacist and took it there for everything ...recalls she got in mail and such, as she was original owner...therefor i have the daytime running lights which most people say wasn't on 96 models. the dealership said it was a recall item that was added while she owned the truck along with some other recall stuff that i'm not sure of the nature
....glad i got the warranty tho, best $1700 i ever spent...they have rebuilt the transfercase, the transmission, the rearend, new bearings in the front end, new intake gaskets and i even made them put new door hinge pins and bushings, as my doors sagged when you opened them, they argued that was a wear item. i got my coverage manual out, that i got with my warranty and it stated door hinges were covered, i knew they were as they told me the warranty was the same as on a new vehicle bumper to bumper....they even have recharged my air condition 3 times , the last time putting in some sort of dye,..they can not find the leak...any1 else have or had this problem? as it needs recharging again!
it is a warranty just like a new truck, bumper to bumper everthing except belts and brake pads....even the water pump is covered. wish my motor would go out before my warranty, so i could get a new engine, but i've seen sbc's go 300,000 miles when taken care of...so i guess i got them for most everything i can but heck they have rebuilt almost my entire truck and it has never been off road by me or previous owner the bottom side is as pretty and white as the topside, thats what my '80 k-5 is for going off road.
it had 86,900 miles on it when i bought it and i bought a 4 yr 48,000 mile warranty for it, as i said, glad i did, i have a $50 deductible whenever anything goes wrong plus i get a loaner...the transfercase bill itself was almost what i paid for the warranty, and get this..they told me it broke because it had not been in 4wd enuff. a gear has a spring under compression while in 2wd and the snap ring that holds it broke and it started to try and lock in while going down the road, i realized what was happening and went ahead and put it in 4 hi and took it to the dealership..my front tires chirped around corners on the way there...do these trucks have the front end locked? or was it because it was broke that both front tires were trying to remain turning at the same speed causing the chirps around corners? it has the push button 4wd and they told me to lock it in about once a month to relieve the tension on the snap ring so it wouldn't work harden and snap again!
i'm covered to 134,900, and have searched on the internet for warranties to see if i could keep it under a warranty and found several companies that will extend it as long as you don't let it go out of warranty, you can get a 12/12,000 all the way up to a 5yr/72,000. the latter is about $1600 for bumper to bumper. has any1 ever dealt with these aftermarket warranty companies, its just hard to believe i can keep a bumper to bumper warranty on my truck all the way to 206,900 miles, be nice if i could! but i'm a little scared of the next warranty, but if it's like what i have, it possibly would be worth it! warranty up to and past 200,00. just un heard of! but they say they can and wil do it.
