Again I am only talking 1973-1987('91) model GM trucks here. I also know that the CUCV's got the TH400/NP208 combo.

So excluding the CUCV's, did any Blazers come from the factory with a TH400? I have always been told no. TH350's or TH700R4's were the only automatic available to civilian model Blazers.

Can anyone prove otherwise, or does everyone agree?

Yep they sure did but not in the civlian form. They came in the military M1009's. But other than that, they didn't come in any other form especially to the public.

I've seen a 2wd Blazer that had one factory,a '74....no 4x4's that I know of besides the military ones had one far as I know.....I have owned several 2wd trucks with Th400's,a '74 GMC Sierra Grande C-10 with a 454 was one--seen several others with TH400's in late 70's Suburbans and C20 ,C30 trucks, and several of them also had 454's--I've seen a few 70-72 2wd trucks with 396's and 402's with factory TH400's too...why GM resisted using the TH400's in the K5's and light duty 4x4s that needed a beefier tranny so long,I dont know...

Well I don't know about all the years but in 74 75 the sbc400 engine option got the th400.
And in 76 77 you could get the th400 with the v8 engines but it was special order then.

Maybe in 2WD but not in 4WD.

Hell I would like to see proof of just about anything in these when did this do this threads.

I do know that in the 70s and early 80s that alot of dealers installed certain non factory items.

Was talking to an old mechanic friend some years ago. He said they pulled small blocks all the time to put in big blocks in x truck (brand new trucks). This was a GM dealer, they put big blocks in blazers too. So not a factory option but certainly original equipment.

I had a 74 that still had the order forms.
Also had a broshure for the following year stating what configurations come stock.

In all of the GM sales brochures I've ever seen, they never once mentioned transmission model. In later years they'd say "3-speed auto" or "4-speed auto" (the latter almost invariably being the 700R4, of course until 1991). In the 70's, however, they'd just say "Turbo Hydramatic", which could then be either the TH350 or TH400.

See e.g.

Though I do note that the latter actually mentions the transfer case model, which is rare.

On the trucks I had that still had the build sheet on the inner fender or glove box, they would list the tranny option with just "Turo-Hydra-Matic",but next to it would be a letter/number ID,the TH350 was an "M-38",and a TH400 was an "M-40",the 700r4's were often listed as a "4L60" ,the later ones with electronic controls were "4L60E"........................................................................................Its hard to say just what GM did sell or didn't,40 years later...and if it was the factory or a dealer who installed the options too...

I would bet at that time, if you had the money, and a dealership that cooperated, you could have gotten whatever you liked inside what ever you wanted. Things like Yenko, COPO, Shelby type offerings. Im aware that is a muscle car type designation, but the shoe almost fits. The aluminum 427, cant remember the engine code. for example, was available over the counter for around 1000$. The dealer would install it for X amount of money. But also, considering at the time a 70 Chevelle SS costed around 4000$, it would have been hard to justify installing an engine that was a 1/4 of the price of the car, plus labor.

You cant go by m38 or m40, ive seen all original trucks that had th350s with m38 and m40 and th400 that had m38 and m40. Cant trust that code.

The correct answer is no.

The only time you could get a TH400 in a Blazer was a D10 M1009 CUCV.
