Hey guyz, I'm new to the site and I am thinkering wioth the idea of getting a k5 Blazer.

I want a manual tranny K5 but I have yet to locate one.

Did they even ever made them ?

i bought a 1985 blazer.. with a manual.. smc465 and a hydraulic clutch....
so that would be a good thing to look for...

or you can always swap one in.. not hard.. but on a daily driver a weekend will be pushing it if you never did it before..... but hydraulic in the weekend is more duable than a mechanical....

So they came with 4 speed manual trannies...

Can you swap in a t56 or a better manual tranny ?

hmm at least you said you were new so I will be nice :haha:

you wont find a much better tranny than the smc465.. plentiful around and very strong... VERY strong... and yes 4 speed.... granny, first, second, third...

however you can get a nv4500 (best year was 1994 I think with a low granny gear) and will give you overdrive.....

problem with many smc465 is the shift ratio....

1st 6.55

2nd 3.58

3rd 1.7

4th 1

the only sucky parts is that when you shift out of 2nd into 3rd.. 3rd revs REALLY FAR due to the big difference in the ratio....

nv4500 is what I want to do someday....

1st 5.61

2nd 3.04

3rd 1.67

4th 1

5th O/D 0.74

I believe they came out in the 89 and up gm trucks, But not 100% sure

yeah but the earlier years came with the better (lower) granny gear.. neither can match the smc465.. but still I would sacrifice some to get the OD!!!! :bow:

Will the smc465 TC bolt right onto the NV4500 ?

Same location ? (I'm concerned with having to have the driving shafts redone)

err huh?

they are both trannies... so they wont bolt onto each other.... did you mean.. will they both bolt onto the motor?

TC = transfer case

Will the SMC465 TC bolt onto the NV4500 tranny ?

SM465 = Tranny
NV4500 = Tranny
NP205, 203, 241 etc...= Transfer Case

Unless I am mistaken (very possible) the SM 465 and NV4500 are interchangable in so far as they will both bolt to the block usign the same bolt pattern.

For what its worth, I did the swap from a TH400 to a SM465(lever, not hydro) and even though I am a hack, it wasn't that hard, although it took more than 2days, more like 4.

NP205, 203, 241 etc...

Those transfer cases bolt onto the NV4500 ? correct ?
