A bit far :D Is it even a 4x4 ?

I found plenty of 3-4k 4x4 blazer but all are auto's[/quote

    well since you are new i wont give ya an ear full but all k5's from like i belive 84-91 were all 4-wheel drive so like i said i will let it go this time since you are new:wink1:

oh and by the way i have a 86 k5 with the 4 speed in it and if the right price came along i might be willing to sell it

Hell I flew down to Arizona to buy my manual k5 :D but I'm kinda crazy.

As far as your swapping in a nv4500 don't worry about messing with your driveshaft lengths. The 4500 and 465 are almost identical in length. Any adaptors that you need to do the swap are cheap and available from a few different sources so not at all hard to find.

I wheel a manual tranny k5 and love it, either tranny won't dissapoint you.

Good luck in your search and welcome to the site.

Ok sorry guyz for all the newbyness :D

How much do those adapters go for ?

NP205, 203, 241 etc...

Those transfer cases bolt onto the NV4500 ? correct ?

Read up on spline count and round vs figure-8 patterns. I don't know enough about the NVG4500 to tell you what fits what, but there are at least 2 Chevy & 1 Dodge version. Add in 5 Chevy NP241s, a Ford, a Dodge, & at least 4 Chevy NP205s, etc and you see how fast problems can arise.

Let me guess: All have the same internals but different mounting/cases :D

Sounds likle fun :D

All K5s were 4x4 except in 78 and 79 a few 2wd were made, but not many.

Not quite, different spline counts on the input as well. Including 2 versions of the 32 spline- long or short- and left or right front output on the NP241.

Not correct, 2WD were available untill at least 1982- that is the newest one I've ever seen. I think you could get them in '83 as well, after that no more until '92. 2WDs are out there from the start in '69.

So they came with 4 speed manual trannies...

Can you swap in a t56 or a better manual tranny ?

Welcome to the board !
In your search you will find that the 465 4-spd & NV-4500 truck tranny's are rated much , much higher than the little girl passenger car T56's. A T56 might be rated to handle 400lbs. , or so , of torque but that is in a car that weighs in at 3,000lbs. Truck tranny's can handle massive weight along with the strain of towing duties.

Like most all everyone else has already stated either the 465 or the 4500 is a fine choice and not likely to have any problems in a Blazer.

thanks for teh info.

Is a GM t56 as strong a a ford t56 ?

The '03 - '04 cobras come with them and they can handle a lot of power in the high boost SC'ed motors.

But I guess if they cant accept transfer Cases it wont be a good option for the k5.

Thanks for the info.

The problem is that they are rated for that much power in a light weight vehicle. You have to consider the service factor when comparing ratings . Passenger car ratings are far different than true truck applications that are required to actually work .

The 4500 is longer than the 465, enough so to require new drivelines...

Rootbreaker, the 92-94 versions of the GM NV4500 came with a 6.34:1 first gear...which is damn close to the 465.
