I am thinking of swaping a 6.2 into the k5 and am wondering if the 6.2 has the same engine mounts as any chevy gas engine? The swap probably wont be until next summer but I need new engine mounts now, and am leaning towards a hd crossmember as well. So if I drop the money for kerts cross member and engine mount kit now will it work with the 6.2? Thanks

Good luck with the swap! Let me know if I can help any...it's been a while but I may be able to remember something pertinent.

I did the same swap, 6.2 in place of a 350. Really not all that much to it. Hell, on my truck, the OEM fuel lines from the 350's mechanical pump lined up with the fuel lines on the 6.2's lift pump. The only piece of the puzzle I never got fully sorted out was a kickdown cable for the th350, but with a manual valve body in it now, it was going to be deleted anyway.

well I have a sm465 so I wont have to deal with that. The more and more I read about the swap the easier and easier it sounds. I might have to add a turbo to mix it up a bit:D

Hardest part of what you're doing is going to be sourcing a flywheel for a reasonable price. Other than that, it's going to fall into place so fast its scary.

I think I am going to scrounge the junk yards for most stuff, I will have to add that to my list.

The flywheel is a PITA to find. I was lucky the 6.2 I bought for the swap was from a 4 speed truck already. EvilBay is not a bad place to look...

Oh yeah, I'm about to do this whole swap once again. This time the 6.2 from my K5 is coming out and going into an '87 Crewcab I just bought.

The crew cab will have a 131.5" wheelbase, K5 fuel tank, 5 foot box, 6.2, NV4500/203/205, triple stick. 1410's everywhere, 4-5" of lift, bilstein 5150's in the 14.5" length, and I'm leaning towards 38" TrXus MT's on H2 rims right now. I could and might run the 39.5's for a while though.

I have everyhting but the 38's and H2 rims already. :D

I actually bought a flywheel new from parts america (checker, shucks kragen). it was something like $80 + $80 core charge. Waited until the least knowledgable staff member was in the store, and exchanged a SBC flywheel as the core. Perhaps a little shady, but I got the flywheel I wanted for a reasonable price. Project (was helping a friend) never ended up materializing. I bet the flywheel is in a box still sitting on his shelf in hawaii.

I am wrapping up my "resto" of my 82 and although mine was equipped with a 6.2, I swapped in a ORD crossmember and Kert's poly engine mounts, really an easy swap and I feel it was well worth it. When I removed my engine crossmember I found a large crack in it :eek1: . One of the mount boxes had a small crack in it as well that I ground down and welded up. Be sure to inspect those parts while you have them out. The HD crossmember gives you better access to the engine mount holes I think. Made putting the engine in much easier as far as installing those mount bolts. But I will say that its alot tighter fit between the firewall for the rear of the engine and between the oilpan and the crossmember when reinstalling. I guess the HD crossmember sits higher in the frame, and I know it sits further back. It fit, but just barely, and it took some finessing. My flywheel was the most difficult find ( I swapped out the 700R4 for a 465). Be sure to check the clearance of the large through bolt in the engine mounts, because with clearance with the lift pump I was unable to install the two halves together a certain way, I forgot to have the halves installed together when I wrestled the engine in, and then almost couldn't get them together once I had it almost in place :doah:.
