diesel,gas,alcohol,veg oil, or paint thinner?

no problem. It's one of those things I've looked into a little bit, but haven't researched much. That may or may not be the best option for you, but it's a good place for some info.
 
Cowboy 80 is correct. You can run diesel or gasoline in the military's multifuel engine. I checked over at SteelSoldiers.com and they basically confirmed what he said.

Back in the 70s, when I was in the Marine Corps, ALL 2 1/2 T trucks were multifuel. The would run on JP-4, JP-5, diesel, or mogas. The mogas required mixing oil with the fuel. We mostly ran em on mogas. At that time, all military vehicles, rated less than 2 1/2 T were gas engines. We were just getting M880s to replace the old M715s. Oh yeah, Gamma Goats were diesel powered.
