diesel noob question

water seperators...... where are they on a 1986 M1009, and are they something that needs to be serviced? ya know, like on an air compressor line, you have to drain the water out of the trap from time to time. or are they a maintanence free thing that just does its job.
 
i'd assume it's similar to the civilian model - it's mounted on the firewall just to the passenger side of the engine bay center line.
 
It's on the fuel filter. It should be on the passenger firewall or on the backside of the intake manifold. It's a black screw type drain on the bottom. Open it and drain until you see diesel. Mines on the firewall. I haven't messed with the other type but I'm sure removing the air filter housing helps;)
