diesel or FI?

Yeah, the 6.2 definitely has a flatter torque curve, and it comes in way sooner, but not nearly as good as the other (generally even larger and heavier) diesel options. I just threw that out as a counter to the common assumption that ALL diesels beat the pants off of relatively stock gassers. I guess if I was daily driving my rig I might consider a 6.5 TD, but I've just never been a fan of the 6.2. If my rig had a running 6.2 in it when I got it, I probably would still be running it. But, I wanted to cut all the weight I could, and I just didn't see spending as much or more on a 6.2 given my goals and knowledge/experience. BTW, FWIW, my tow rig is a diesel and I don’t think I will ever consider another gasser, but I still wouldn’t go out of my way for a 6.2… <shrug> I only posted cause it seemed like all the advice was one way, normally I don’t get involved in these type discussions simply because it does come down to opinion and preference…

BTW, has anyone EVER seen a 6.2 that would stay clean? Seems like all the Detroits (including the big boys) leak oil and fuel. Nasty, stinky, messy engines, at least all those I’ve seen. Then again, most people let a gasser get crusty too, but at least it doesn’t smell like raw diesel. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I am not gonna claim the 6.2 is the be-all end-all of diesel power...but it was the solution to many issues for me. I'm happy with it so far./forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I may have never considered it if I had a TBI 350 to start with...

As for staying clean. The oil pan is dry, valve covers also dry, in fact the motor was really clean when I went to look at it and has stayed that way so far. My 350 looks like it was hemmoraging...it was getting tired though so that is to be expected.

Hey Rene, when I get to looking around for the 6.2, should I buy a rebuilt one or a used one? How many miles would be too many? I'd like to score a good one and not have to rebuild it, or a quality rebuilt one.
