Diesel Vs Gas

If you are dead set on swapping, either a 6.2/6.5 with a turbo or go with a 4.8/5.3/6.0 gasser. Lots of good info for both swaps, and you're sticking w/ an OEM solution as well.

But do you really need a swap? Why not work with what ya have?

Just my 2 cents!

It actually all started with "why not work with what I have". The original plan was to do a Vortec head swap keeping the TBI, then Thought about going with a TPI gain more bottom end with the TPI but then a bunch of rewiring. As Russell mentioned why not just find a donor 96-2000 5.7 truck and swap out everything.

Why the 5.7, because I know it, it will perform better then what I have and will be a direct drop in. Yes I could find a 5.3 but at a price. I can find 96-00 running drivable 5.7 donors for under 2K. as for diesel, if i was going that route I would just go to a Cummins. Right now though things make sense to just stay in the engine type I have now. I dont want a high rev HP motor I just want to gain the most I can out of my 350 without it wanting to suck 40 gallons a minute of fuel.

Either way this isn't happening now or this summer. This is a thread I started to see which way might be a better solution, so things could change down the road.

Well, I understand....BUT a cummins is not a simple swap, whereas a GM diesel would be bolt in without special adapters and would be simpler. And it would be a low rpm power maker (peak torque is around 1800rpm i think) and return decent fuel mileage as well. Can you tow as much a cummins? Not even close...but that's comparing apples to oranges.

Sounds like you have a plan, so run with it!

Yeah, the 6.5 is not 100% ruled out but like i said I am just thinking and sorting right now getting extra input and recommendations from you guys. Sometimes its good to dangle an idea in front of other people because you will always get a different perspective.:waytogo:
