You shouldnt spool up much, if any. Plus, you need time to spool- So unless your always on the skinny pedal, you shouldnt have much problem. You can also adjust the boost manually, and just turn it off when your off road.

colbystephens said:this ofcourse brings up the issue that if you're building a trail rig w/ a diesel, and you are going to need crazy amounts of power offroad, you are probably going to not want the diesel - since a turbo won't provide it in most circumstances offroad.
colbystephens said:that's pretty freakin impressive! i'd love to see those numbers on my rig someday!
rjfguitar - from what most the guys are saying on the diesel board, it's difficult to get the turbo to spool up during crawling because it needs a load to produce the boost. don't know how much that figure into your statement. i'm not familiar with turbos yet.![]()

I am new to the whole scene and i am still young so i have a lot to learn. so if i say something stupid please excuse me.
83' k5 said:Because from what you have said it sounds like you have what i am going for.
except i want to run a turbo too.
colbystephens said:i think what rene runs is about what every diesel k5er on here wants.except i want to run a turbo too.

rjfguitar said:I'd rather have a "clean" K5 (meaning no cut fenders, all the silverado trim on and in tact, nice shiny paint, aluminum rims) with a 4 or 6bt under the hood and 4" strait pipe with a Diamond Eye muffler(nearly strait through). People would expect something like Rene's truck to potentially have something different under the hood when everyone is out together on the trail, but buzzing around town and both the Chevy guys and Ram diesel guys would take notice with some raised eyebrows because they wouldn't expect a Cummins growl out the back of a "1/2 ton" K5.![]()

12's in a 7K truck is extremely impressive. When was the last time someone was able to run in the 12's with a K5 around here? Gas, diesel, propane, steam....anything?beastofablaze said:A Diesel sleeper would be cool but you'd have to throw some $$$ around to get it to be something to brag about... 1300 ft lbs only equals high 12's in a 7000 lb truck... of course your talking about dropping a newer diesel in a k5 but my point is dollar for dollar I think gas is the way to go as far as hot rods go.

colbystephens said:i can appreciate what you're saying - but i think it's important to understand that the motors were created for two different purposes. thus, comparing them as one being better than the other is not really a proper comparison. also, fwiw, it doesn't redline at 3600 - it's governed to it. if you could handle the noise of a 3600rpm diesel, you could run it at that all day.
