Hi! Im new to the site. Im currently Deployed in Afghanistan and cant wait to get home to my K10.

A little about the truck-

Tubed front end
Dana 60 front with moly shafts and spool
14b FF with stock gov loc
4.11 gears
Turbo 400 Trans
On board air
37" Military tires
Rock lights
flat black

Ok when I got the truck the guy was selling it and had it listed as a K5, but when I looked at the title it says K10.

What is the differences between the 2?

Thanks everyone and I look forward to gaining some knowledge from you all.

Pics of the rig will come soon.

A K10 is a pickup, half-ton 4wd. A K5 is a blazer. Hopefully your title is good for the truck. I'd verify the vin against the title.

Otherwise congrats on the new rig:waytogo:

I compared the VIN and it matches the title and appears to be untampered. It is a K5. Maybe its a misshap on the title.? I also google images K10 and some Blazers popped up so I was thinking that maybe it was just like a 3/4 ton K5.

Some times the titles have weird vehicle codes at the state DMV.

My car is a "92L" on my title even though that model doesn't exist. I asked about fixing it because i was concerned. I was told, "As long as the vin matches the title, you are fine."

Nevermind I just found the info I was looking for.

GM has used C and K as identifiers for years, C is 2wd and K is 4wd. The number indicates it's weight classification. 5 is 1/4th ton, 10 is 1/2 ton, 20 is 3/4 ton, and 30 is 1 ton.

Let me know if this is correct. I got it from google.

It wouldnt happen to have an orange stripe on the front diff cover and a part of a high lift welded to the tie rod does it?

No sir, but it was built in my shop building. Its got few parts of mine on it that I gave him to get it running to go wheeling. Turns out he was trying to get it running to sell it. Unless you've changed it, the front shafts are stock. The trans is a TH350. And if I were you I'd seriously consider inspecting the bearings in the rear end. Those axles came off a mud truck and were nasty inside. He just changed the oil and ran them. Thats why everything but the shafts in the front has been replaced. The front shaft is also new, I let him use it to get it going and he sold it the next week. New spicer joints and a new spicer slip. Should serve you well for a long time.

And if you convert to crossover could I have my kingpin cap back on the steering side? The piece of junk tin replacement I took off his while he borrowed mine doesnt like to stay sealed.

The rear diff was completly dry. I had to buy a complete rebuild kit for it. By the way does the rear diff stay locked? I would send you your piece back but I wont be home until late october. The front end right tube seal leaks like crazy also. I didnt have much time when I was home to check everything out, but I thought he told me it had a 400 trans. I may have got the info wrong. What t-case is in it do you remember?

No problem. If you ever change it out I'll buy it off of you.

The rear diff was always weird. It acted like an aggressive limited slip, not like any gov lock I've ever seen. But I recall it being open when we had the cover off to change fluid. I know it wasnt welded, and I know its not locked because when a tire came off the ground it acted like an open diff.

Its a turbo 350 trans, I'd put money on it. Its got the part time np203 case behind it. Seemed to work well.

Anything else I need to know?

Not off the top of my head. Most everything else is new or working correctly. If you rotate the tires the rear rims are wider than the fronts. And the mud running hillbilly that had those axles before put a grease zerk on the hub on the front axle, if I recall correctly they were both broken off, might be worth putting a bolt in there or welding the hole up to seal it off.

Wow. Give us enough time and members of this site will have in some way had their hands on every K5 left in the nation.

Stay safe and thanks for your service.

So back to my question. Bahahahahahahaa...

Is there a K10 Blazer?
Well even though the badge on the blazer says K5, the GM paperwork says K10.
This discussion has happened before here, and the consensus is that thsy had to differenciate the truck from the blazer so they put K5 instead of K10 on it, but they are both 1/2 ton trucks.
So for your truck don't worry, it's a K10 but it's also a K5:thumb:

a blazer could also be referred to as a v10 when looking up parts.
