Can anyone provide the part number for late square body c.1987 tilt column high beam dimmer switch rod part number please. Thanks.

I would check squarebody recue or steering column services

Thanks for the tip. I tried both. Neither has one. I bought an after-market one and it did not fit right. Would like the part number to keep an eye on eBay, just in case. While the column was disassemble a moron went into my truck looking for something and bent my original.

Ok, no idea on a part number. If you have yours, I would just fix it.

I found the part number but not the part. If anyone has one or knows where I could get one please let me know. Thanks.

Are there any cross reference services still out there for GM part numbers? Used to be able to do it on ACdelco.com, and it would show every vehicle that part was used on.

Kind of wondering how universal that part is. Would seem to be one that would be the same in as many vehicles as possible, if the dimmer switch could be located in the same spot.

Even then, with the upper portion of the column being the same across the board, would cutting down a too-long part be feasible?

Thank you all for your input. That ACdelco site could not help. Mine worked great before my column rebuild. In case anyone was wondering the part number is 7844199.

There's arelly good gm tilt column rebuild on utube. Think it's an 86. I don't know how to link stuff. Think there's a column rebuild thread or two floating around here. How do you know it's bent? I remember it being easy to misalign the bottom end of that rod.

I think I saw the same video. You're right that is a good reference. As for the rod, it is not straight. It has to go above the bolt holes then angle downward to intersect the line through the hole in the column housing, then angled again so that the upper end of the rod contacts the high beam actuator. So there are two precise bends in it. A meathead family member who had no business being in my truck was selfishly looking for something in my console that he wanted. Turns out it was not there. But in so doing he moved the rod from the console to the drivers seat. I went into the truck in a low light situation thinking everything was as I left it and sat on it. Now its a problem for me. Its the tilt column so the rod has to be just right for the high beam to work at any angle the column is tilted to. The after market one didn't fit. So I bought a used one from a guy that was all bent up worse than mine. That's why I originally wanted the part number to try and find a NOS part. Looks like I'm faced with trying to re-bend one of these. This is an inspection issue in my state that needs to be correct.

That's an interesting solution I had not thought of. You have given me something else to consider if the re-bending does not work. Thanks for the idea.
