Hey dudes. I don't know how many subscribe to MotorTrend OnDemand, but the season end episode of Dirt Every Day has the boys taking Dave's Red Squarebody that they took over the Rubicon trail stock now over Back Door at Johnson Valley. Pretty much threw the ORD catalog at it with springs, shackle flip, crossover, doubler and a whole lot of work to get it to make it over.

Crazy thing is they couldn't find a D60 in time, so they ended up running the stock 8lug D44 with a locker, Chrome-moly shafts and 40" tires. Didn't break it.

The truck was already hammered from the Rubicon so they weren't killing a pristine stocker. Funny note, they ran the Rubicon with 4.10's in one axle and 3.73's in the other. No wonder the 203 wasn't happy on that trip.

It's a good watch if you subscribe.

I watched it yesterday, fun episode. It was nice to see a non Jeep project.

Fun fact. Ive been on an episode of dirt every day.
How do non subscribers get to see it?

Do you know the episode number or title? I'd guess the only way a non subscriber could watch might be YouTube IF they post the shows there.

Nah, it was about 5 years ago when I worked at 4 wheel parts in San Antonio. They made a pit stop and hung out for a little bit.

Huh. I thought this thread would be bitching about the 5-10 build gaffes that they made.
And i'm not talking about the dana 44.

I watched last night it definitely makes me feel better about the d44 in my k5:waytogo:
Me too about the 44, I still need chro-mo shafts for sure!

Which episode? I'll have to go back and watch it.

As far as non-subscribers watching, they usually have a 30 day free deal going on. Sign up, watch a few shows and cancel if you don't want to subscribe before the 30 days is up.

I don't watch any of these videos for technical correct info. These things get slapped together, beat on and more questionable repairs are done when stuff breaks. It's just stupid fun to watch somebody else beat up on all kinds of trucks and still manage to get through some gnarly trails in the process.

The best thing to do is wait for a holiday deal. I'm a pretty big pirate and still haven't found a source of their stuff. But for fathers day they did $1 a month so I jumped on that. its actually pretty worth it for the content they put out/have now. All of the original top gear. live racing, lots of good stuff.

They totally missed big when talking about a name for that truck. Shoulda called it the "Fire Truck", it's red and has caught fire at least 7 times by Dave's count. I was pretty surprised the D44 held up, Dave wasn't exactly babying it at any point. Goes to show that good parts are usually worth their weight in gold. I also sorta liked how they pretty much had to do everything twice, all I could think was "that's how I do it...lol"

Really liked seeing ORD get some props and exposure on this episode!:waytogo: @Stephen

I think that every time I see one of the car "build" shows put together a jacked up 4x4 and you can tell that nobody in that shop knows anything about building an off-roader.

I always figure you can do a lot of things with running gear that shouldn't be able to hold up, one time anyway. Whether or not you can do it repeatedly is the question. I'm still amazed the year we had a stock K5 run the Crack n Back at Blazer Bash without breaking anything, but I don't think he'd get away with it a second time.

They put a lot of money into that axle; chromo shafts, Reid Racing knuckles, and a locker. I don't remember seeing what they are running for lockouts.

Couple things that stood out to me in that episode. They completely glossed over the custom leaf springs. Usually they talk that stuff up. And I was shocked to see Dave paint the shackle flip brackets, including the inside of the bracket where it's against the frame. Surprised me to see them take the time on a truck they'll probably never drive again. Or they'll completely redo it in a couple of years.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy the show. I just finished binge watching the series from the start. I even think I know what episode @obijuank5 is talking about being in. 4 Wheel Parts sponsored the show early on, so they always made a big deal about going to one of the stores.

Good episode overall, they helped show the capability of our trucks. Yes even thou everything was thrown at it. Lol
I laughed when they said they had to do everything at least twice on the truck and it fought them every step of they way. I guess that’s not how a truck is built :dunno:, cause mine has always been a two steps forward and about five backwards. Lol

No kidding, my recent changes to my truck was consistent that some things had to be done twice or fought harder than expected.

When given time both Fred and Dave can turn out some cool trucks. Just like Finnegan and Freiburger do on Roadkill. Some of the fun is seeing what they can pull off on a shoestring budget and just their wits.

The biggest thing I've taken away from Dirt Every Day is just drive it. Don't worry if it's not perfect because you'll probably get along fine and have more fun than you realize. I haven't driven our 66 C20 much because it leaks and the rear or transmission sounds like it has a bad bearing. After watching Dirt Every Day for a while when the daily driver C10 went into the garage for mods, I thought "I'm just going to drive the 66 every day". So that's what I've done the past 2 weeks and it has been fun!
