disc brakes on a ff14b...fit inside 15" rims?

Re: disc brakes on a ff14b...fit inside 15\" rims?

(voice of Homer Simpson) Uhhmmm, sawzall, uhmmmmm...

I absolutely agree, if it don't fit, start cutting. However, some people have already cut as much as they want to, or, for some reason, they don't want to cut at all. Others, like me, would be hitting at the firewall and/or radiator support. To clear the 42s on 4" of lift, I'm already moving the axle, cutting the radiator support even with the radiator, moving the axle forward 2", modifying the fire wall, AND, if that still doesn't clear, moving the cab back. Going with less back spacing would just make matters worse and it would be harder to turn sitting still just to add more fun...

Some day: massive cutting, shorter wb and rear overhang.

Yep, like Wayne said, as long as the spacing is the same, no problem. If the front wheels had more back spacing it would actually be closer to matching the back, but I wouldn't want to run two different wheels like that. I don't know about Burb rears being wider than Blazers but everything I've heard is that they are narrower just like Blazers and Pickups. Never noticed on the Burbs so I can't say for sure. If I'm not mistaken, the factory backspace is around 4" but I'm not entirely sure. All I know is that my 16" 1-ton 8 lug wheels are 4", just like my new 8 lug 15s...

I believe the 8-lug front hub assemblies are wider than the 6-lug stuff. I think Stephen Watson of ORD did a write-up on this (maybe on his webpage??). When I converted my front 10-bolt from 6 to 8-lug, I did not take actual measurements....but just by looking my 8-lug rims with 4.25" BS stick out just as far, or farther than (both front and rear, but the front is still wider) my old 6-lug rims with 3.5" BS...............I'll check real quick

Just checked it out, look under the "tech tips" on the ORD website. It saids that the 8-lug stuff is 2" wider than the 6-lug stuff.

Ok, so just to be clear, when you get backspacing wheels, you should put them on all 4 wheels, not just front or rear?

How is the backspacing done? Is it the placement of the hub in the rim, or is there spacers or something on the studs?

Back spacing is just the measurement from the back rim lip (where the tire bead fits up against the rim) to the back of the plate where the studs go through. All (normal) rims have some back spacing. How much is what you have to decide. And yes, you usually get the same front and rear so that you can easily rotate tires without remounting. However, some people use different b.s. front and rear to achieve some desired affect, and they just live with the limitations.

So basically if he put a 14ff in the back and left the front 6 lug for now there would only be a 1" difference, 1/2" on either side, which would not be that noticeable, but if he changed the front to 8 lug he would then notice it more.
