Hey all, was trying to get everything finished on the disc brake swap. After an hour of bleeding the lines they are leaking from the banjo bolts on both calipers, the passenger side is worse though. all the parts are new so what gives? I got 78 chevy 3/4 ton calipers with 78 chevette lines.

Did you install the copper sealing washers above and below the banjo bolts?

Bruiser

yup I sure did. I believe I had them on tight but I rechecked and tightend a slight amount.

Sometimes the bulkhead of the brake line will interfere with the hose seating properly and you'll either need to grind the bulk head fitting some or grind the caliper where it hits. I had to do this with my front brake hoses when i installed my D60.

it looked like it was sitting flush with the caliper, and as far as I can tell there wasnt any contact between the 2. Ill double check though

did you use new ones?
I only ask because I believe they get grooves in them... and if they had grooves from 1 vehicle it is possible that it would create new grooves and leak

hmm well still no luck, everything is sitting fluch and there is no contact anywhere. The bolt threads fine into the caliper, but may it be to small for the banjo? maybe not going far enough in? At my wits end wishing I just bought a kit lol

I've seen banjo bolts that were like .001" too long before, and were bottoming out in the caliper before they sealed off the line real well. Might try taking it off and seeing how far it screws in before it bottoms out without the line on there, take a measurement or something. Or pull out one washer and see if it will tighten down. If it will tighten down with just one washer instead of the two that you're supposed to have, then it should be torquing properly with two and sealing off. You might end up having to get shorter banjo bolts.

IIRC 78 will be a 10mm (.3937") banjo bolt. If your lines are for 7/16" (.4375") banjo bolts then this could very well be your problem. Just something else for you to check out.

LOL it's a very good chance. Lets see I got the calipers from vacavalley(local parts store) hard lines and rubber lines from napa and 1 banjo bolt from autozone and the other from kragens :D

So Do I just need to get different bolts or different lines?

The thread size of the caliper you're using it going to dictate what banjo bolt size which in turn dictates what line you need. Obviously the banjo bolts you have fit the caliper so now you need to see if they fit snugly in the line. If the bolt is loose in the line then they are the wrong lines.

Pretty sure i posted this info on another thread of yours but i'll do it again.

Front brake hoses off of a 84 or 85 cavilier will work with 10mm banjo bolts. They are short with a protective sleeve. I used these on my rear disc.

Both of the '78 chevies I have took the 7/16 bolts. They started using 10mm on the 10-bolt, when they switched from the D44. You can count on '80 and up being 10mm, 79 was kind of a transitional year.

after talking with 4x4high I believe I have the wrong lines. I have the chevete lines but there is a bit of space between the caliper fitting and the banjo bolt width wise. im gonna have to dig up some reciepts to make sure I got 78 calipers. Ill let you all know how it turns out

ok im pretty sure I have 7/16 banjo bolt but i want to be 100% what can I do to identify the bolt?

Im looking at this whole thing in a positive way. I didnt really like they way I had everything routed plumbing wise due to length of hose and having to go around the shock mounts it just didnt look right and it was bugging me anyway :D. Sooo I think im going to redo everything including moving the shock mounts and redo the brake lines
