Solved the issue with the tabs with my Dremel tool and cut off wheels, but found another. The tabs also serve to keep the bed sides from flexing. They are tapered to slightly pull the bedsides in when the tailgate is closed. But they seemed to pull too much, they were real tight. So back to the old tail gate and measure between the tabs. They measured exactly 64", and the new tailgate measures 65-3/4". So now the only fix I can see is to heat and bend the tabs out 1/8" each. I could cut the bedsides, but they are real American steel and I would rather cut and bend the Tiawan tailgate.

Wow...sorry to hear you are having so much trouble...I have made up my mind from now on to use parts yard steel before I ever order another import body panel again....

I will NEVER order another Tiawan made body panel or part. This has turned into a "what next" game.
The metal is so thin, I'm going to spray undercoating inside to try and kill some of the "tinny" sound it makes.

I'm just glad I'm not looking for the final results you are. I just want it road worthy and look OK. If I was after anything else, I would throw this tailgate away.
