disk brake rear ?

is there any reason you cant use 1/2 ton 2WD calipers on a disk brake swap for a 14ff ?

they use the same pads . . . i have a set and trying to pinch my pennies to get this done .

i just dont recall anyone ever saying you can or cant use them .
I remember when I tried using the calipers from my 1/2 ton van something didn't clear.
Can't remember what it was but I was trying to use it on the front d44 and it didn't fit right.
It was same style mount but didn't work on the 4x4 axle.
Not sure if it's a van thing or a 2wd thing.

so today i took off the 1987 c/r 10 front calipers that were from a v8 truck . the caliper was a direct swap on to the 3/4 ton backing plates i am using in my disk brake swap . only change i can see is the brake hose location and position .

i did end up using them for cores for the k10 calipers tho since i got a smoking deal on the k10 calipers at the parts store .

but here is some pics for every ones viewing pleasure .

crusty ones are old 2wd . goldish ones are k10 .

and the width of 2.5" on both is pistion all the way in parked out to outer pad ear's .

Looking at the pictures I remember the problem.
Did you try it on the axle?
I remember the orientation of the hose location puts it in the way of something on a 4x4

thats the only thing i did not try .

but like i said for me its not a problem since i used the 2wd units as the core for the 4wd units .

but i do see were it could be a problem .

Yeah cores no one cares

wish i could find a core buyer for the dozen dana 60 caliper sets i have in my stash . they were 50ish each at the store for the ones i just got .
I scraped so many good cores because I have no body to sell to.
I still have plenty of starters alternators steering boxes...

There are places buying cores online, and I see local salvage yards filling cut up home heating oil tanks with power steering rack & pinions, calipers, master cylinders, starters, alternators, and FWD axles, transmissions, etc, to sell to core suppliers in bulk...

Many now don't like to sell these parts as "good used" in case they turn out to be crap, and face angry customers, they sell a lot of the things you'd like to buy only to those places now..making it tougher to score a good used transmission or other commonly needed parts..

One place I brought a dozen or so used starters and alternators I had saved that sat so long they rusted and seized up gave me almost $100 cash for the pile, that was 10+ years ago..
