me and muh lady went to the hardware store for new transfer case xmember bolts and after to a chinese food restraunt. paid too much and got a delicious fortune cookie that said "An unexpected bill or financial report will arrive today"

i get home and i was checkin out my truck cause i have been hearing pops and clunks under acceleration. well my motor mounts are wasted and obviously theyve been like this for a long time. i just raised my TC and started hearing this noise. im almost positive its this pass side mount. trans mount is bad too because of this.

oh boy. how the **** can i replace these? is it as much of a PITA as it seems? just regular rubber replacements or polys all around? what about solid mounts? :eek1: where can i get decently priced ones, good vendors here?

my truck has really been testy since august with the driveline vibes and two new 1350 CV shafts (the first one they built me was bent) and two transfer cases, a junk 37" tire and another egg shaped, one blown up warn hub and just buyin the third case. im so broke i cant even renew my registration cause i renewed it here:D. im a tad frustrated.

motor mounts are actually pretty easy if you have everything in front of you and are prepared.

what i would do is disconnect the trans, (make sure you use a jack to keep it from dropping too much) and then yank the motor..then you have a whole open front end to do what needs to be done..

HA! man you are right on, i am so gonna pull the motor. no offense but thats just batty. i dont have that kind of time. if im gonna pull the motor its getting a BBC. then if it gets a BBC its getting a 400/205. if it gets that then i would need a 14ff. then i would need 40s. then i would need a d60. then i would need a new body.

you also need to replace the pass side cup that bolts to the engine, it is broken in your pics.

oh yeah i WILL replace that clamshell, forgot to say that. if i go rubber mounts ill do that but im eyeing thos comp style mounts from ORD but what trans mount to pair it with? how will that fare on the stock xmembers?

I like the way you think :D

Go with poly mounts all around. I killed a set of rubber motor mounts in a year and half.

I went with prothane motor and trans mounts from jegs.

To change motor mounts I have always put a piece of wood on my jack (to distribute load better) and jack up the motor from the oilpan.

same with me, makes everything a lot simpler.

I bought brand new Energy Suspension clamshell type engine mount inserts and t-case mounts also.

I'm interested in seeing how close the harmonic balancer is to the crossmember below it. Is it hitting?

ok ive gotten the go ahead from the ol lady to get the ORD comp mounts and trans mount and its like 250 bucks total. i just came across an extra 150 bucks so its like im buying regular polys but free coolness factor of the comp mounts. overkill?
seen here:

i really like the design of these over the stock replacements, are there any adverse effects on my frame xmember when installing this? ive got a stock 350 at the moment and probably wont go bigger for a long time.

also how do i tell if my trans mount is a one piece or two piece? ive never had it apart and it appears to be one piece but has lines in a V shape possibly a two piece?

heres a pic of it, from my research it seems 85 was a blended year.

Yours is the one piece.

The two-piece uses the flat crossmember.

:doah:

yeah those are sweet, ill give them a call and see if theyve got a matching trans mount. if not what can i get? just any type of poly?

thanks for pointing that out big time! savin me alot of money right there.

the DIY appear to be shorter than the ORD mounts, are they the same size as a new GM mount?

No problem, just hate seeing people spending double at Offroad when other vender's sell pretty much the same thing for cheaper. . as for the hight difference I would contact Kert at DIY4x

I have also considered these mounts, but am worried about the factory crossmember, subscribed!

i spoke to kert on the phone and he said theyre like a new stock replacement height-wise and i shouldnt experience any other xmember problems assiciated with these new mounts as you would with stockers. i plan on getting this done next next sunday.
