When using my smoker I would preheat it to 300 degrees
Once it was up to temp I would hang the parts I was baking/cooking an set the timer
Biggest thing is that the smoker be big enough for the parts. That an keeping an air tight seal

Different powders and manufacturers have different time/temp requirements. Most require reaching the minimum temp then the timeframe regardless of preheating. Look at it like boiling water, you don't call it boiling until it reaches 212*F regardless of how long it takes to get there.
The parts are ready for use as soon as you can handle them without gloves.
 
i'm gonna work on this.... see about picking up an oven on sat/sun....
