They are reasonably durable. Probably not cheaper in reality. Last time I priced one it's around $200 for the material. It's not really what I'd consider practical for this type of thing. The only big advantage is if you want some elaborate design that would require airbrushing then it might be cheaper. And it's not a seamless install. It has to be cut and overlapped in places.
