DIY4X Gauntlet rear with tire carrier.

That looks great...........kudos to DIY4X nice fab work!

Thank you!

Kert you get all the credit for how quick everything is going together. couple smacks with the hammer to straighten up my frame and the bumper pretty much slid into place. The best part of the whole deal was that the bolt holes lined up perfectly.
The color is a semi gloss black. It's supposed to be flat but it's got a little shine to it. Guess that is how powder coat is?
The spring assist is really nice. Before you know it you will be hanging linear actuators in there to lift the tire up and down for us lazy types. But it really lightens the tire for both opening and closing. My wife took the tire for a test drive and she didn't seem that impressed with the assist until I unbolted it and made her take it off the mount. Of course then she really understood how nice it is.

Powder coat does always seem to have a bit of a sheen to it. Can't wait to see the finished pics when you get it all coated.

Definitely can be difficult to swing the tire up before the spring is in place. On the prototype, we disengaged the lock, with no tire on it and let it fling some stuff. Pretty energetic. Catapult. I don't recommend doing this.

This thing is saweeeeeet! Any option or way to modify an existing gauntlet to add tire carrier?

That'd be a tough one. I'm not going to say its impossible though. We'd definitely have to get the bumper back here.

Looks great! Maybe its me OCD but the only thing that would bother me is the lights not being parallel with the top of the bumper

This bumper profile doesn't lend itself very well to lights. At some point the lights get to close to the bends. When that happens and the edge falls into the die rather than catching the opposite side of the die, it doesn't actually bend any longer but sort of blows out the light hole and you end up with a mess. In this particular intance, due to the length of the light, they had to follow the bottom profile to avoid that situation.

Thanx shady....its the lack of a picture that got me. If we could figure out how to say slide the assm to the right and make room for a swing away for fuel cans....i'd say perfection.

that's ****in beautiful. i've always loved the drop down carriers and for my suburban that would be my only option, i've never spoken to someone with one to see if its convenient or not. i'll be looking forward to reports on how you like walking around the tires all the time when the back end is open. man i love Kert's work!

You know what else is nice is that the tire down serves as a nice step for climbing onto the tailgate

Lookin' nice!

Send me some High res stuff if you get the chance. They'll be website bound.

If the weather don't turn to sh!t you should have pics this weekend. Powder coat really tightens up the carrier. Not that it had very much play without but I had him over spray inside the tubes at the hinge point and everything went together nice and snug. I know we never discussed it but I installed the tubes dry just because I don't want the grease to attract dirt. Then I was thinking should I have drilled and put zerk fittings in to grease it and keep it from rusting? Guess time will tell. Thanks again Kert for another really nice product

Wouldn't be hard to add a zerk and a good idea for the product.

Lookin' forward to the finished pics! and you're very welcome.
