diy4x shackle flip gone wrong

So I installed the diy4x flip and switch on my blazer and installed 56" springs. Well the issue is as soon as I pushed down on the rear bumper the shackles fliped up. I do have the right hanger on the left side and vise versa. I have the long side of the springs pointed rearward and have 4.5" shackles on there. I did weld new perchase on my 14b and moved the springs forward 1.5" since the perch has 3 mounting holes. I ordered some 6" shackles to see if that will help but looks like I will have to move the hangers back a few inches. Strange cause the shackle angles actually look pretty good until it goes inverted from pushing down on the bumper.

Did you contact DIY4x about the issue??? from what I understand they are real good on customer service. might be a simple issue they've run into before and have a fix for.

I bet ya once you put some 6" shackles on there, it will fix your problem. I just swapped 56's into the rear of mine and have the 6" shackles. I have never really heard of people having problems with flattened shackles with the 6 inchers. But I have heard multiple people with the 4 -4.5 inchers say they have had this. The shackle angle looks good, but once real weight gets on it, it folds. The 6" shackles should still have a real good angle but not give you this problem.

Question: Do you have lifted 56's? I have heard multiple people say they have this problem with lifted 56's too because the eyelet of the spring has a more "upward" arch on it and can cause more of an upward force to the shackle when it's at the desired 45 degree angle (if that makes any sense). Let us know what happens with it.

I have some 6" on order from DIY and should be here in the next couple days. Hopefully it will fix the issue.

I am using 4" rough country lift springs in the rear. Is it all lift springs that may have this issue or just some? Any idea if others had to move the hangers back to fix it?

I don't know if "all" guys I have seen with lift springs have had this problem, but it seems like almost everytime I see someone have this problem, even after swapping brackets side to side, they have lifted 56's. I am sure some guys with lifted 56's have been fine. But like I said, I think once you get the 6" shackles on there, you will probably be good to go.

Measure the springs. Most lifted springs are longer than stockers. I'll bet that those 56" springs are actually closer to 57"-58" and this is the reason you're inverting the shackle.

Like Kay86K5 said longer shackles will most likely solve your issue.

6" shackles fixed it! As much as I dont like running a shackle that long. Thanks again for your help.

Those wheels! I didn't think anyone else had any, took me a long time to find mine. :thumb:

Truck looks real good. :pimp:

what springs are you guys using? I know 56" but what brands? im looking for 6"

I am running the 2" lift tough country soft rides in the front and rough country 4" springs in the rear. The rear I cut off the stock spring perches and welded some new ones on that sit a little lower, let me get rid of the deg shim and move the springs forward 1.5 inches without the easy inch. If you run the RC 4" they are actually about 58" and as you seen above need 6" shackles. With the soft rides in the front I ended up using the 3rd hole back from the front and it gave me a perfect shackle angle (Removed and re installed the axle 3 times to get it right, lol). I think I will be replacing the RC rear springs with some 3" tough country soft ride springs if I can find um.

Thanks! Unfortunately those are loaners with the 38" tires too (Just for rollers). I am going to be getting some 40" pit bull rockers and some DIY bead locks after I get my doubler installed.

If the owner of the wheels is looking to sell them, let me know it'd be nice to hav a spare set.

Doubler + 40" Pitbulls sounds good. Be sure to start a build thread with pics.

Or you could probably go with an EZ inch in the front and it should sit about level. Either way, it should work real good for ya. Glad you got it fixed and figured out. Blazer looks good dude :waytogo:. Keep it up!

Oh, and X2 on the build thread!

good point, I do have a set of easy inches sitting in the garage, I just hate using any type of lift block, lol. I think I might just start a build thread.

Thanks again for your help.

just to clarify, the problem only occurs with lift 56" springs? these springs will measure a little greater than 56"?

yes, but running a 6" shackle fixes it. I actually have an almost perfect shackle angle now and it dose not flip up any more.

Is it me, or are those wheels going opposite directions (if you look at the cutouts in the rim)?

lol, you are correct. Those are just a set of tires and wheells I am using for rollers so I am not worried about fixing it. Next week I shall be ordering my new tires, stuck between 40" pit bull rockers, mud graplers, good year Kevlars or swamper TSLs. Any recommendations?

I hear the pitbulls are fantastic.

Ask kellyjohn. He drives his rig from Canada all over the country.
