I guess it just depends. I'm not aware of any place on the body that the VIN is stamped, but if it is, then it stands to reason that could be used as the ID...they knew my frame wasn't stolen from the partial VIN for instance.
I still would talk to the DMV or whoever controls that stuff in your state. Without a VIN, I'm not sure you could ever prove it wasn't stolen enough to claim it as your own. But, there could be some legal ways around that too.
For instance, I didn't need the title, I just needed the receipt that showed the VIN was removed "legally". That's the problem with different rules in each state, it could be totally different than yours. Whoever does this for your state you can talk to, has no doubt answered the same question 1000 times, so as was mentioned way back when, record the person you talked with, and the time and date, and run with it, if it's answer you wanted to hear. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
