Do away with daytime driving lights

I have a 91 burb and it has the daytime driving lights, where the brights are dimly lit. What do I need to do to get rid of that. Thanks
Tarey

You might want to check your state laws about that. Here in California you cannot disable the daytime driving lights.

Many states will not allow the disabling of that feature, unless there is an override included from the manufacturer.

I turn my lights on in the daytime. It cuts down on the morons who try to turn in front of me and join me in my lane.

Its harder to see motorcycles lane splitting now , they look like one car to me . I wish we could go back to only bikes had lights on during the day , and that was by choice .

I usually leave them on , but its a pain on long road trips not to be able to go on/off to signal the big rigs they are clear to get over .

my 94 had DRL, all i had to do was remove the DRL fuse fron under the dash. i bought thetruck used back in 99, back then i turned it off because i got sick and tired of people telling me my lights were on.

I know GM sold retrofit modules for DRL's, maybe GM just added the modules to the earlier trucks instead of redoing the harness, as I don't *think* DRL was a requirement.

On another thread you looked up what the diode was in a 91 electrical drawing. If you remove that diode will that get rid of the DRL ( daytime running lights. I'm going to do the relays off of the alternator for brighter headlights in the near future.
Thanks

I'm really not sure what the heck that diode is for. I'd have to figure out from the diagram what it's tied in to.

What threw me is that there are two different styles of "diode assembly" based on which body style the truck was. The one you have, and one with something like 5 wires to it.

I can't imagine pulling it can hurt anything, you'd simply end up with an open circuit. Is it just stuffed in there or is it soldered?

It's just stuck in there and wrapped with that black duct tape. If I get a chance I will take it out and see what happens. I'll let you guys know.

Look Mr Safety, you don't live in AZ. and I won't be driving in Co. I want to hook up brighter lights with the relays to the alternator. If you can help good, if not.

If it were me I'd find the DRL relay and disconnect it. Should be underhood if I'm interpreting the diagram right, and likely the cool "oval" shaped relay with weatherpack connector.

I'm not sure about the diode. One of the wires to that connector goes to some fuse panel connector that I can't find (quickly) in the diagrams. Both the "in" and "out" wires on that connector are spliced into other wires. Very odd setup is all I can say.

My car is a 2004 and doesn't have factory DRL, nor does my truck, I don't think one less DRL equipped vehicle on the road matters. I'm sure the one accident a year it saves due to piss-poor drivers is worth the thousands of barrels of oil their use consumes. I'm sure no one removes EGR or AIR either, or runs full hydraulic steering on the street, or no ebrakes.

I simply don't understand why you have a problem with your lights being on?

And thanks for the title of Mr. Safety, I might have to use that in a sig sometime ;)

Do you know how many accidents the daytime running lights actually save? How many barrels of oil would would you value for each life saved?

I know many people here drive without their lights on during the day but it is a safety feature. I don't understand the reasoning to take that away.
