Do factory wheels have size markings on the back side?

I know some wheels, aftermarket and other makers, have the size stamped or cast into the back side of the wheel. Ford in particular I know does this. Did GM?

zim's got a set of 15's I might like to have but we're trying to figure out the dimensions without him having to unseat the ancient tires.

I've seen some OEM rims with such markings,sometimes they stamp them near the valve stem ,on others its on the inner back side,or on the inside of the rim..usually says something like "15 x7-JJ" and sometimes there is a maximum PSI rating also..my rally wheels are stamped next to the valve stem hole on the outer surface..seen many plain steel rims that way too...but not all are stamped on the outside ..

Every wheel i've ever seen has the size either stamed (if steel wheel) or cast (if aluminum wheel) into them. Most aluminum wheels are cast into the backside and most steel wheels are stamped on the inside (have to remove the tire to see it).

He could take the wheel to a local tire shop and they can tell him what width the wheel is without even removing the tire as they'll just use their wheel width gauge that they use to set up the balancing machine.

Ever read that issue of 4-Wheel & Off-Road from a few years back where they did a test of diffent tires, rims, rim widths, and a few other things to see what it took to unseat tires from different shapes and sizes of rims, beads, etc at different pressures?

The actual results weren't terribly surprising but Pewe threw them for a loop by putting in some ancient Mickey T Baja's on some old steel wagon wheels. THEY WOULD NOT COME OFF. Had a picture of them with no psi, valve core removed, being winched sideways by the wheel on pavement...stayed on the bead.

Just reminded me.

I've had to put a 2x4 on a tire and drive up on it with another vehicle. Also lots of cursing and and hammering with a bead bar.

99% of all rims have a size on them somehow.

and i used a backhoe rear bucket for down preasure 1 time at work along with tire breaker slide hammer and sludge bead breaker to crack some 40" hawgs off the rims thay had been rusted to for years.

and the worst rims i think i ever had to deal with were boyd coddington customs rims. the jack a$$ who figured you didnt need a drop center or to smoth out the inside and NOT leave machine ridges in there was a fu*kin a$$ . try breakin down those skinny tires on those rims was a mother

i'd also like to know how to remove old tires, i have a set of 8 lug 16.5'' steel wheels that are sitting b/c nobody can get the old rubber off. i figured i'd use a cut-off & sawzall if i ever run across 16.5 tires i want to run on them..

We used to get a lot of rims off junkers at the junkyard that had petrified bias ply tires litteraly welded to the rims by years of rust and old bead sealer,etc...usually leaving them outside in the hot sun all day softened up the rubber enough to allow the tire machine's bead breaker to get them off,sometimes we'd take brake fluid out of some master cylinders and pour it on the bead areas to help soften the rubber up,or used motor oil..

When all else failed,we'd put them under the forkloder forks and use down pressure to break the beads loose,but sometimes the rims got bent --we found doing it on dirt worked better than tar or cement,it let the rim sink in instead of bending...

The wheels on Zimmer old blazer are15x8 chevy did make some 15x7 6 stud rallies, but I`ve only seen one set. The wheels in that pic are 8`s.

I use a jackal to break beads on tires, If that dosen`t work, a grinder with a cut off wheel on it will... I have yet to be defeated by a old tire.
