Does the gasket act as a shim bewteen the spline shaft and the tcase, or can I use gasket maker?

Do I need a gasket inbewteen the adapater and np208?

I use Ultra black RTV, a nice 1/4"-3/8" wide bead on the adapter and make sure you go around every bolt hole not just across it or it will leak.

excellent, I had ordered a gasket thinking it was a shim, but I guess no, sweet tommaro I can toss the transmission in and get the tcase on! thanks man! and it would leak because fluid can come out of those holes, correct?
Yes it will leak if RTV doesn't go around each bolt hole. The 208 the adapter to t-case holes go into the internals of the case but the 241 has blind bolt holes.

good ol chevy engineers eh buddy. Oh well, at least If i put a bead on, let it fit for 15 min, and toss the case on, It shouldnt Leak. Great, Thanks for the help,
