Do y'all think it'll really happen?

Re: Do y\'all think it\'ll really happen?

ok since i've had both i'll chime in. i had a tj w/arb's front and rear. they were great and with the exception of 4wpw screwing up the first install i never had a problem. they are quite expensive, but if you can afford it, more power to you. frequently i forgot to engage the front, but when i couldn't get up an obstacle i would then remember and crawl right up. i have also had a rig with detroits front and rear and it was quite difficult to turn sharp with the front hubs engaged. some people dont mind this and thats the great thing about living in the u.s..... everyone can have thier own opinion. my personal choice on my k5... detroit rear, selectable front later on when funds permit.... my $.02

Re: Do y\'all think it\'ll really happen?

On the price thing. Anymore with some places competeing with others, the prices are coming down. Now I haven't checked prices on these two, but in the past I have seen some ARB prices in the low $500 range. Whats a D60 detroit run? $350-400? I'd save up for the ARB. Now of course with the ARB, you need an air pump to operate them. But alot of people install yorks(and other OBA systems) so that eliminates that extra cost...
Personally I would like having the options of the ARB front or rear.. Front - mostly for turning or trails where I really dont need the front locked. And the rear - snowy roads..

Re: Do y\'all think it\'ll really happen?

The cost thing is a hard one to beat. Were I going to fully equip my Sub I think I'd put a Wrong-Lox in the front and if the $$$ were there a T-lok in the rear. My reasoning is this: when I need to lock the hubs I need true 4wd. Driving around town I can get by with 1wd. My 112" wheel base yota has a Detroit in the rear, new enough to be the so-called "soft locker". It's great when wheeling, but I can't see how anyone can say they 'forgot it's there.'

Some of us don't like having to fight our rig around a tight turn on a trail.

my rear detroit doesnt cause any probs turning tightly on a trail... the front gives me some resistance, but the rear one is no biggie.

Ever since I have had the hydro ram I haven't felt anything weird about turning with my front locker. If I had twin stick I'd just front dig, and then I'd be sure I could turn tight. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I turn my rig just fine with both axles locked in, not sure what your problem is on that one. I don't "fight" my 6,000 lb rig, I just drive.

Hehe, how many times have we heard the question, "Are both tires turning?" from guys running ARBs?

seem like to much work to remember to flip the switch all the time

i've got ARBs front and rear and i love them. maybe its causs i like switches but i've never forgotten to switch it on or had to ask someone if its accually working.

it bugs me when i hear about all the retards on the trail that forget to engage the locker before attempting an obsticle. if you cant remember to flip a switch maybe you should have an "idiot proof" detroit. maybe you should also get a fulltime 4x4 so you dont have to remember to engage the T-case.

i think having a twin stick would be more complicated than flipping a little switch, but most people say they'd love to have a twin stick but oh my gosh i cant remember if i engaged the locker.

where i think the ARB shines most is the fact that its completely transparent when off.its alot more forgiving in snowy/rainy conditions than a detroit.

I am even thinking about a detroit for my tow rig/DD when I get one too.

dont the manufacturers say that you shouldnt use a detroit in a tow rig?

as far as the original post, i think its pretty cool. if they make one for the 14b,i'll say its about time. i'd probly get one once they've been around a few years and lower the price. ive got a 14b that i want to install in my rig one day , but not until they make a selectable "spool" .
