Do you do it?

:haha: :rotfl:  wait..... :haha: :haha:

nope... my rigs tend to be lifers, so i'm not looking at it from a resell standpoint... and my "caviar tastes on a tunafish budget" mentality make me spend stoopid money on parts, and ESPECIALLY materials.... not too smart when you're a po boy... :doah: ;)

anyone who follows my builds will testify to my stubbornness about putting "what I want" in my rigs and not compromising whenever possible... bank account be damned! ;)

i used to only because i was ocd about budgeting for stuff, but now that my son is old enough (we both have K5's) and we wrench together, i quit keeping up with it. whatever it takes for the time together is the way i look at it. and yes, my bank account doesnt seem to be set up the way some folks are. :D

do you keep up with every dollar spent on your toys/projects? I have in the past, but i quit
Never did never will.
The only condition is never get anything on credit if I don't have the funds for it.
I just use my credit cards because I get cash back but I always have the funds to pay the bills or I hold off

I do, but not very formally. Mostly in small sub-sections or systems. I buy/sell and have a net number as a goal and try and meet that. I try and net zero on alot of things but in this diesel swap I'm at the point where I just gotta lay it down. Kinda like ryoken is doing. I'm getting what I want.

Nope. I have rough estimates, but I never keep an exact track. It can kill the hobby for some people.

I suspect time spent on research and execution to be more depressing than dollars spent lol

execution..... :haha:

i have to chuckle when peeps on FB ask me about making Mutt's tubebed for them, literally bite my lip, and give some general excuse for no...

it's prolly 6, 7 g's currently in parts and material... I'll say 1000 hrs of labor, but I'd bet it's more like 1500..... let's be nice and say I work for $50 an hr.....

50 x 1000 = $50,000 + $7000 = how many small children DO you have to sell? :haha:

hmmmmm, I don't feel bad about parts now! ;)

I did once,,, on my son's 72 blazer.

And it was worth it, even if it did make me cry when I added it up lol.

When he got hit by another driver, their insurance company said "ok, given it's age and rust we'll total it and give you $2000..." .I said NOPE, and got out the folder that had all receipts in it. Guy started going through it all and looking at dates... Then changed their offer to $9500 they take the truck or $6500 and we keep the truck .

Keeping track saved me there.

This is the only reason to keep all records/receipts from a project.

Otherwise, it just causes headaches and tension in relationships.

One of the reasons I don't keep track.
I could keep track of everything and show that I get back from my projects more than I spend on them.
It's partly because I had been collecting a lot of trucks and parts and now I am selling more than buying but if my wife saw that she would only see what I buy and ignore what I get from sales and then complain.
Now I try to keep all of it in cash and PayPal and when she sees new things I tell her I traded for it.
In the end I kind of did.
But she never sees the numbers.

I did at first, but it’s just easier to budget for a piece at a time then move on. I’ll never get back what I put into it probably but I also never plan to sell it. I’ve had offers close to what I have into it but I love it too much to ever get rid of it.
