Does anyone else do this, or am I just the only one. pics

And Rdn2Blazer, you might be OCD even for a machinist -- but that's okay.

LOL! :haha:I take that as a complement. As a machinist, as Rene pointed out You HAVE to make perfect parts. Atleast the shops I have worked for demanded it. Not one of the machine shops I have ever worked at had parts with wide open tollerence like plus/minus .005 or .010.

I have allways worked with plus/minus a few thousands to plus/minus as tight as .0001. Thats One ten Thousands of an inch. Surface finishes that are smooth as glass. Its just the nature of machining. When you have a part with plus minus .0002 and you machine it .0002 undersize you cant put the material back on, Its Scrap period.

I KNOW we are not talking about hi precision machined parts here ofcourse. I just have an attention to detail mentality from my trade. I would rather be wheelin on the trail aswell and have a not so perfect rig, and mine wont be perfect by ANY means. But I know I will be satisfied with what I have built if I just continue to do what I do.

Its just how I do things OCD or not. There is a reason why all the guys who bought my D60/14FF bearing Race/Seal Installation tool have been as happy as they were, hence the reason for the GREAT I Trader ratings I have been given by those same guys. Which I appreciate a ton. When you have been cut on sharp machined parts as many times as I have you grow to appreciate a nice smooooth radiused edge. :D

Dcubb's cross members are AWESOME, Im getting one ASAP. And again, Let me point out Im NOT bagging on Kert, ORD, Ruff Stuff or any other vendor here, get that straight. I have bought from many and will be buying from Kert, ORD, and others again I can Promiss you that. There all GREAT vendors. There is a reason why I have all their parts on my rig, If I didn't think they were great parts I would not have bought them.

You guys who know my stuff know I could build tube doors, but I have allready told kert his are the best on the market bar none. Im buying his before I build my own, thats for sure.

The concept of adding a sandblasting option for a small fee has been tossed around at DIY4X. Currently anti-spatter spray is used on quite a bit of the welding and some parts are cleaned with a needle scaler before they are shipped.

All of the flat pieces that come out of the table are sanded, and all bolt holes are chamfered with the exception of nut strips like in RD2N's first picture.

I know that there is generally some splatter still around, but can you guys imagine having to completely deburr every single razorback that comes out of the shop? :doah:

THAT, would be BRUTAL!

For tabs and small stuff a tumbler debur tub is the way to go, but no you could not put Diff covers in a tub, they would be dinged to hell and back from banging together. That would be a manual labor job. At one machine shop we had a dubur guy that made 24 bucks an hour. He debured parts all day long. It is a was a dirty ass job, but he was very good at what he did. Made parts beautiful. Another shop had a full debur dept. with about 4 or 5 debur hands.

For a small fab shop I understand its just not worth it. But a machine shop has to have this type of ability for its parts so that they dont need any final finishing after shipping.

In the UK there is an actual apprenticeship and trade name for de-burring stuff. They call them "Fettlers"...

The machine shop charge hand at my work is a good friend, and spent most of his life in the UK. I've learned so many good tricks and methods from him...

I'm willing to pay less and do more myself, but I don't make all that much money to begin with.

I wish paying less was an option.
And I know how you feel now making much , SSI sucks!!!

I think if the parts are painted they shouldn't have a sharp edge or weld splatter anywhere. If they aren't painted then it's not as big of a deal for me to run a file over them.
