Does anyone else think "square body" is a stupid name?

They are not really that square, especially the 1973-1980 models. The 1988-1998 pickups are much more "square".

Where did that name come from? The School Of The Blind?

Martin

Probably the wheel well opening as opposed to the body style before it that has a round opening.

comparing to the 88+ trucks (NBS) it is more square in panel shape (except for stepsides or dually's) I don't hate the knickname given to them, and don't ever recall hearing it until I joined CK5. So who is to blame/credit?

It is another stupid nickname born on the internet like the lame acronyms seen in forums everywhere: OBS, NBS, NNBS, NNNBS, NNNNNNNNBS, WTF?? Those acronyms are stupid . Have you ever walked into a GM dealer and ordered a part by telling the counterman it is a NBS truck? No

Why not just call them what they are…. 67-72, 73-87 (87-91 R/V), GMT400 (88-98), GMT800 (99-06), GMT900 (06-13) :dunno:

In the same vein I get a kick out of the 88+ trucks being called NBS for "New Body Style", and then like 99+ being called NNBS for New New or somesuch.

What about 67-72? Aren't they NBS when compared to 60-66? :D

On topic, maybe the 73-80 are square when compared to the older trucks. Either way, it's silly.

I also think the nickname is a little goofy but the 73-87(91)'s definitely have more right angles and square features than the later body styles.

BMW wins with chassis codes. We only seem to have chassis codes for the new GM stuff.

Having BMW chassis codes well known, and used by everyone, freaking rocks for internet searches.

All i need to do is search E34, E38, E12, etc, and find EVERYTHING i need.

Square, as in 90* angle square... Not squared.

Lots of square angles on square bodies...

Don't you go gettin' smart-azzed, you called your pickemup a "second-gen" :doah:

It's either parallel to a first-gen Blazer, or like a sixth-gen pickup :D

I agree the the NBS OOBS whatever stuff is pretty annoying.. I don't know the GMT stuff very well, so most of the time I call them by year splits. Today, however, at about 3:31pm I was asking a certain person if he has some center caps that I could cut up for my 47 project and asked if they were the squarebody style lol.

I seem to have ruffled your feathers, friend! For that I am sorry :)

No.

It's a second generation c/10..... I don't think I ever called it a second-gen pickup.
How is that wrong? :dunno:

I've heard them called square bodies since well before I got on the internet. before the internet was a normal thing even actually. my dad and other families have been saying that since they still sold em new I think. same with the 80+ ferds

I have NEVER heard it anywhere but on here, and most definitely not in real life.

Martin

I have heard it outside of here. It makes a lot of sense to me. I mean stand back and look at it. The entire body is very "squared off"

My round ass goes good with my square body...:thumb:

It annoys me a little, I prefer the year split of body years.

Only time this works is if you say a 07 truck. NBS or classic is what I hear from my parts guys, only because they are to lazy to look themselves. I don't blame them it's a simple question and answer.
