Got some more learnin' and some more tools so we're now almost half way through fixing that Kia of my buddy's I posted about a while back. Fixing the water pump and doing the timing belt while we're in there. He noticed the manual said that during reassembly it required us to use RTV.
However I forgot to look at it again and didn't see if it said which RTV to use or even which part of the job required it.

I have black and clear in my pile, but can easily get any of them today. Which RTV should I use when doing a front cover off water pump replacement on a DOHC Mazda 1.8L motor?

I put one on a Nissan Sentra for a girl I was dating one time. It had the grey kind on it and that's what I put back. She never had any trouble out of it while we were dating (couple years after that).

Cool, thanks guys. I think I'll have to go hit the parts stores. Wonder where I can get that stuff on Sunday...might have to go down to the Nicholasville NAPA.

RTV is RTV when it comes to automotive stuff. That being said, I usually use B2 from permatex.

Used Great Stuff to adhere the gasket to the water pump today. Turned out you're only supposed to goob some onto the non-mating surfaces of the pump to hold the gasket on while moving the pump into position.

We're about 3/4 the way done. Haven't started it but we're hopeful all goes together correctly tomorrow.
