We all know steel prices are through the roof, and the cost of DOM is going stratospheric along with it.

I just got a quote for domestic 1.75" x .120" DOM at $4.65/ft. (@ 300ft)

That is a lot more than I've paid in the past, but it may not be a bad price in the current market?? :dunno:

What are you guys seeing for costs?

:usaflag:

I'le call my supplier and get a price today to see how they compete.

one place around me wanted 12 a foot for 1.5 .250 wall
i ended up finding it anoter place for $100 for a 20 foot stick

When i called EMJ metals on July 7th it was 4.15/ft and that was .61/ft more than it was on July 3rd. Oh, that was for 200 feet.

Metal in general is getting more expensive... we finally had to raise our prices on materials for our customers a few weeks back.

...and most of you guys also pay Sales Tax on top of those prices.

That's prolly another 6% - 9% per foot. Being in NH, we don't pay tax.... guess that makes the price seem a little better? :dunno:

lol, but yeah what are your property taxes! haha.

i think my price was with tax included, out the door price.

Touche! About $14,000 last year.... :eek1:

I think I'm still ahead by not paying income tax, and sales tax.... but writing that property tax check still hurts a lot.

$3.70 per ft for 300ft for Domestic 1 3/4 DOM tube at Totton Tube in Azuza Ca. I just got off the phone with a sales rep.

sweet mother of god.... 14k! :eek1::eek1:.. Whats your house/property worth?!

It's not what the property is WORTH, it's what it last sold for :deal:

Here in CA, hypothetically if one paid, say, $430 for a house five years ago, it would have hit a high value of about $525, and at the moment is "worth" about $300, i.e. that's what it would sell for in today's market.

CA residents can get a temporary reduction in property tax when the economy takes a $hit like now. Unfortunately, they use the property value as of the start of the calendary year (in this case, January 2008) and of course we've taken a beating *since* then. In the above example, I think the state says the property was worth $370 in January... which means in eight months the "value" has dropped *seventy grand*.

It's all on paper of course, but certainly is a motivator not to sell for a while!

Mind you, I'll happily take the reduction. The property tax for that hypothetical $430 house is about five grand annually, and could drop to maybe four, four and a quarter with the reduction.

(Greg, you missing the Bay cost of living yet? :haha: )

we just did a group buy a month ago (i backed out at the last minute) i think it was like 18 sticks that were 22 feet each...somewere around 2.25 to 2.50 a foot out of delware..not tax iirc

Aaron, here in Ca property tax is based on the purchase price of the house not what it's worth and also each county is different.

Umm, that's what I said:

Except, as mentioned, where reduced temporarily by request per Proposition 8.

(scroll down)

And yeah, it's per-county 'cuz we pay the county ... but you're what, Alameda? Can't be far off from Contra Costa.

Hate to break up the discussion on CA Real Estate, but.... :D

Any idea what the name of the company in Delaware was???

I've found a few vendors online so far:

www.tottentubes.com
www.emjmetals.com
www.shapirosupply.com

Not sure that any of them deliver out in these parts, but might be useful to someone else.

http://www.

I'm the one who did the deal down here. The name of the company is Marmon/Keystone. 1-800-228-3929
They also have a place in Butler PA 1-800-245-3910. If that's any closer to you.

I got it for that price this winter....I'm sure it's gone up since then.

BTT -

Steel demand is way down...... has anyone seen it affect DOM pricing, or are the suppliers still trying to sell off expensive inventories??? :dunno:

Anyone have actual recent costs to share, esp. on the East Coast? I want to place an order with a local supplier for some 1.75" x .120" DOM but want to get a sense of what the going rate is before I call him.
