What would be a good car/truck to get a donor 350 out of that is easy to come by and not to expensive. I think i am going to buy a complete rig and i would like to find something before the snow comes, Oh yeah it has to be a fuel injected and be able to swap in to my 84 gmc to replace the oil dripping paper weight that ticks. I was going to look for any gm truck 87 and newer. Just wondering what you guys would prefer or advise. It has to a be a 350 because i don't like diseal and don't want realy bad fuel mileage.

later than 87 and it will have different heads, therefore you will need a special intake to run a carb.

If it were me, I would find a low-milage car, preferably a camaro, firebird or the like. Something that was "fast", they always seemed to have the most HP. For torque I've been told that van motors have the most stock...could be a myth though.

Go get a wrecked vehicle from an insurance buyout auction. I know guys that do this and they claim that you can get a a wrecked $30,000 vehicle for under $500 just to get the drivetrain.

If you are swapping to TBI (which it sounds like is your plan?) then you want a 1987-1991 R/V truck. If you go with a 1990-91, you'll have to swap the transfercase as well, since they don't use a speedometer cable. I like the no cable setup better, but if you can't get a complete drivetrain, it becomes a hassle.

Used caprice's are always a safe bet. While other cars may have more HP family/grandma cars are usualy less abused and almost always cheap. I would avoid cop cars as they are abused alot more, but still a later model cop car would have a LT1.

Just the motor I already got 2 different trannys and one t-case to use
I am not worried about condition because i plan on rebuilding it over the winter, I heard that the tbi in 87 and up trucks dont like the mods that much and i am not sure about the mods i plan on doing to the motor right yet.

Went to look a 350 fi out of a 1990 capprice cop car with all the wiring motor mounts and rad and bunch of other stuff for $300, The bad was when it was in the car it would not build up enough fuel pressure to start but it would crank over and the wiring is all cut up in sections. The fuel pump is going to be changed anyway i figured but the wiring kinda of scares me. Got a 1991 4x4 to go look at tommrow with the interior burnt out of it

the original owner of my truck had a 305 in it i think, and either wanted more power, or ****ed it up and put a 350 camaro motor in it....carbed obviously.

Hmmm

I believe I still have my original 350 sitting under the bench in my fathers garage. Its carbed and needs a rebuild, if your interested. I'll have a look, I usually can dig them up. Did you ask Porter?

Porter .... yeah i found a 89 fully loaded burb with a 350 in it so i kept it to my self so i could save some cash from subway and mr porter bought it but thats all i can do, I realy want the fuel injection system. for the winter mainly.
I got a few more donors to look at in the buy n sell , The guy in my welding class is susposed to bring me done to get that tranny and t-case off you, I think you might know him. Dont want to mention somones name online, i can tell you after. And about the warn hubs i think i am going to get the driving flanges for my 60. If i do i will probly give them to you.

Hows your k5 coming alone ?? looking for any parts that i may be able to help you find?? I got one of those stupid alumium spolier things that goes on the hard top of the k5 you can have it if you want it if not i am going to cut it up for scrape metal

No on the spoiler. I have one that will never go on the old k5, not much progress on the K5. Too much time being spent on the trikes. 85 Honda 200x, 81 Honda 250R, 84 Honda 70 and the little xls Honda 80 dirtbike been chewing up my funds. My father is welding instructor at Academy Canada. But anywoo, I have no issues with my carb in the winter. I dont even have the choke hooked up and two pumps before I turn her over and away she goes. I am running an Edelbrook 600 and have no problems with the cold.

i got now problems on the old q-jet but i figured the fi would be a fun learning process and just as easy to come by. You need to sell one of the bikes and get the kf going again. I havent got alot of money to spend either working at subway blows 300 bucks every 2 weeks man. I am in cona on prince phillip drive for welding. Well im trying to get the the truck converted to 4x4 and use my 1 ton axles and a soldid dependable drivetrain on 35's and 7 inchs of lift but the subway pay is going to make it slow, So i cant wait to get my first year welding so i can get a half decent job, Got a 25cent raise today yippie maybe i can finaly afford to do something lol. Over the winter i want to rebuild a motor, axles t-case and atempt a tranny , Diffently going to screw it all up.
I also want to find the 89 gmc burb front clip but i am having a hard time finding one.

I always like the old fashioned thing . NO COP cars , NO Taxis , NO service vehicles .

You want a family car or truck , one that has not been idling in traffic all day long , and has been cycled off and on so many times from cold to hot . We called that "seasoned" when I was coming up .
