But don't blame me, blame the previous owner(s). The white is remains of the duct tape I used to cover the holes until I could swap in a new tailgate. This old one was also badly rusted out on the top edge by the window and was starting to deteriorate at the bottom. Road salt is the Devil's invention, I tells ya!

Now if I could just get me a new "DIESEL 6.2L" emblem...
