Door Handles wont come off

I NEED HELP TAKING OFF THESE DOOR HANDLES!!! AHHH. there old and pitted and the plastic is starting to turn so i got some new ones, but i cant seem to get the old ones off. Maybe the truck has a connection with them or somthing lol I have been searching for this for about 3 days now and no one had a answer that could help me. I have the clip off the door handle and the bolts off. i just can seem to get the nailhead rod part out from the hole in the door handle. I need help! pictures would be awesome, thanks.

What year is your truck. *edi* I just saw your sig and you have an 87. not sure if there is a diff. if not than you dont need to do anything on the inside if your just replcing mirrors

Also why do you need to take door handles off to change mirrors.

I have a K5 Blazer and everything I needed to get to was on the outside. Your truck may be diff. Jus sayin................

im not just replacing the mirrors im replacing the old door handles as well as the mirrors. Im asking if i should have a heads up on anything when installing the new mittors as well as the door handles. * i fixed my post to to make it clearer

I had a hella of a time getting my door handles off, ended up getting stitches on the inside of my finger after listening to my friend and just ripping them off. I ended up just cutting the rods and everything else and welding the doors shut (1/2 doors) so I am not much help to you but I feel your pain.

geez. i hope its not that hard to get off im just trying to find out hoe\w to get the rod out from the middle of the handle

Its not all that had to replace the handles, just takes a bit of time. Remove the interior panel from the door, and look near the back edge of the door at the latch while pressing the door handle's button. You will see the rod moving up and down, use a screwdriver to release the metal clip holding the rod into the latch. the rod comes out with the handle. hopefully this helps, its been a while since I've had a door apart.
