73-87(91) door hinges, how will they work without the spring / bar in them? Will the door open too far and hit the fender?

I’m not worried about it holding the door open.

They will work just fine, as there are stops built into the hinges. I've had both the springs break on my K10 and lived with it like that for a while until I finally finally got around to replacing them.

Without that spring tension will the doors need to be pushed or tugged a little harder while opening ?
I don’t think it will matter much at all just curious if it effects it instantly once the latches are pulled upon while opening.

Without the springs there is nothing to regulate the door speed once the latch is pulled.
Which isn't very cool on a windy day.

I had a broken spring on the passenger door for a few years and the only thing was it opened uncontrollably in the wind and couldn't prop it open, it closed back up.
That spring is the prop

I see now that without the spring the door moves freely like a Jeep door but like @cheavyk10 said there’s a stop /check bar on the hinges to prevent them from opening too far.

How many do you need? I may have a bin with a dozen or so sets of good hinges.

Thanks but I put my doors on without the springs.

I may hit you up for some door striker pins and other hardware. Any chance you have some of the full top door cover plates that go above the handles?

Did you make yourdoors removable?

Door striker pins are available new and dirt cheap still. The way the old ones wear, they are generally no good when I find them.

I have nothing for K5 specific parts at the moment.

@kennyw yes, I'm using some ORD removeable pins so I can switch between real doors and tube doors.

Thanks for the info, I'll check around for pins. :thumb:
