I am trying to check out my door jamb switches and i cant figure how they come out. First i had to use a star key to get the housing off , but now i cant get the switch off, isnt there supposed to be wires too? I am starting to think this part might be from a different car or something.

correction, it is an 83 blazer, the door jamb switches are the switches in the door frame that cause the dome light to go on when the doors open. I am trying to get them out so i can check if theyre working. In order for them to come out i had to loosen a size 50 torx bolt from the inside trim-piece/cover allowing me access to the switch. From here i dont see how the switch comes out and there are no wires connected to it (should be a ground wire right?) I know people have replaced these before but i cant figure how the thing comes out. Anybody?

There is no torx bolt at the door jamb switch, I think you are looking at the seat belt release. The door jamb switch is on the front frame of the door, next to the kick panels, while the one you are describing sounds like the one at the back of the door frame for the seat belt. It is just a standard hex around the switch and pulls straight out with 1 or 2 wires attached.

things are definitely making more sense now! haha i cant believe i was looking at the wrong thing. well i got them out and they are real rusty so hopefully replacing them will do some good. thx man!

Eh, it happens. Did you try grounding the wire against the frame to see if the wire is broken anywhere? That is the quick and easy way to find issues with the dome light system. That system is always hot, with all switches providing ground.

I'm glad you caught that. I was sitting here trying to figure out what the heck he was taking off. Never thought about the seat belt retractor.
