My one-owner, 190,000-mile '89 K5 Scottsdale has had a stubborn left-side door lock issue for quite some time. The lock cylinder doesn't turn from the outside, and the inside lock button doesn't move. Sometimes it will if I tug on it up and down very fast, but this is extremely tiresome, so mostly I just get in and out of the truck from the passenger's side, also very tiresome. I just purchased another Scottsdale K5 (an extremely clean 1990 model) to use as I slowly restore my very rusty other one, and I notice this one has the same problem, only on the right side. Is this a distinct 1989-91 Blazer phenomenon, or has anybody else experienced this? I suppose changing the lock cylinders is the only way to fix it. Thanks.

My '85 does it on the passenger side lock... I put the key in, apply a little pressure on the door (to take the pressure off the latch) and lift up as I turn the key...works every time.

If you replace them I belive you can get a combination door lock/ignition setup from LMC so you'll only have one key to deal with...

This just happened to me in my '89 K5. The passenger door has never opened with the key. I think some PO must have swapped doors on that side. This time I was in the K5 and couldn't get the drivers door to unlock no matter how I fiddled, pushed, pulled, etc. Had to finally crawl over and get out the pass side. Came back and was able to get it unlocked by pushing in on the door while turning the key. It's a good thing it worked or I woulda had to crawl in the tailgate! Only happened the once, and I'm not keeping that truck running for much longer so I probly won't bother to fix it - unless it starts happening all the time.

Power locks?

Graphite is the best, but I don't know if it would help this particular situation. I'd definitely try it first though.

I pulled my truck into the shop duing my lunch break one day and pulled the driver's side door apart to fix the electric window motor and while I was in there I put graphite on all the hinges for the window as well as the lock linkage and it made a pretty big difference...
So if any of you guys have your doors apart for some reason put some on everything as long as you're in there... my window is faster and my lock is smooth...

Well WD40 might loosen stuff up but it'll attract all kinds of gunk...thats the plus side to using the graphite...

My '89 locks and windows are power :(, but in my '91 both are manual :waytogo:. One less thing to break (in theory)

Sounds like you need to take it apart and find out what's actually wrong.

If you've lubed it and it doesn't loosen up, then something must be binding or not connected correctly.

Put the key in the lock, push the button on the door handle turn the key to unlock. VOILA!! Happens to me a lot of the time. The worst is when it is raining and you are inside the truck when this happens. Then you have to roll the window down, push the button and then hit the pl switch or pull up on the knob
