As most of you guys have noticed/commented on at some point in your CK5 careers, the side view mirror situation on first gens is a pickle:rolleyes:

I will end up with 8 inches of lift and 39 inch TSL's when I'm done: much more than enough to crush a car (or small bus) and I was wondering what you first genners have done for door mirrors. I HATE the tripod mirrors and will not see before I run those... I really like the factory square mirrors, but know you can't see :poo: out of them. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any that look like the latter but are maybe slightly larger and/or with convex lenses? If not I may contact some people about trying to make some so if that is the case how many would be interested in something like that?

Annnnnd........GO!!!:D

the mirrors off a mid 70's-mid 80's ones can easily be modified to fit

That was one option that was higher on my list. I have those same mirrors on my 93 stepside but was kind of hoping for something a little smaller. Visibility would be great but looks might might not be what I want. Thanks for the tip though, maybe I'll photoshop some on there to see. :thumb:

the mirrors off of a mid-90's ford truck look good and will mount in the small bent in area at the top of the door. I have a set on my '72, and I'll post a pic if I can find one.

I've also seen other people with the same mirrors, so they might have a better pic.

thats the best pic I have at the moment.

Good topic. :waytogo:

I need to figure out what I'm going to do here shortly. Well, after I figure out what doors are going to be used. :D

I like the look of the existing mirrors, but there to small and I don't feel like tearing them off on some tree as they don't have the ability to pull in.

Number one, I guess, is they have to be able to pull in. Having the hard mount directly to the door will lead to problems down the road, I'm sure.

I like my stock mirrors - although they are a beotch to see out of. I turned them 90° so that the long side is vertical - and that helps a bit - but they ARE tiny!

I do like the styling of them though.

What about running a back up camera? I bought one for my wife several years back when we had an Expedition and she could not back it up to save her life - that helped quite a bit. We got it at Walmart for $100 or $120? It had the TV, camera, everything... I thought about getting a couple for the Blazer at that time - but I have bigger priorities at this point...

Do they fold in?

I had the tripods and went back to stock.
Only for looks though. I cant see $h1t out of these stock ones
It took alot of work to weld and patch all the door holes from the tripods.

definitely good topic, I have the round ones that are made for the top of the door frame on pickups and I mount them in front of the wing window. I can see some out of the driver's side but passenger side is of no help.

These are the mirrors I like the look of best but I know you can't see sh** out of them. I was thinking of trying to find out how much it would be to make/have made some with that base, the same shaped body maybe 1" wider/taller with convex mirrors. I want to be able to see, but won't run big uglies after doing all this body work... I guess I'll keep searching some stuff and maybe do some calling around to find out about having some made.

kinda forgot about this thread, but here are a couple of shots of my mirrors if you are interested.

What did those come off of?

I had the small square ones but ripped both off between two trees at the same time. Yeah I know. I went to the three point ones from LMC parts and I really dont like them since they shack and wobble when driving down the road, and if your running 39's I know there not round...

I did some searching last night and found these. They look the same as Ashman is running.

Nice, I wonder if you whacked off the dongle looking thing if it would still be stable or if it would wobble?

yeah, those are the same mirrors, although I bought mine straight from the ford dealer, so the aftermarket ones might not be as good. they also come with chrome on the backside if you are into that. :D

I think you'd have to keep the dongle thing, they are fairly heavy. its designed to bolt to the inside of the door, but has to be modified since our doors are much skinnier than the ford doors it is made for.

I was actually comment on the chrome or lack thereof on yours. I'm not big into plastic, especially on these big old trucks, so that was something I was wondering. I've got a couple of ideas rattling around that may work. That won't be as cheap as those furd's but may still be on the cheap and look good. I'll keep you guys informed...

I'm with you on the plastic..It's still gotta have that old school classic chrome look for me.

How much from the dealer and are yours steel or plastic? I don't care about the chrome, took all mine off, except the door handles. The mirrors I saw only have a chrome strip glued on the back of them from what I can tell.

honestly, I can't remember how much they were, put them on about 10 years ago.

they are plastic though, so it sounds like that may be an issue for some of you guys.
