Door mirrors

I think you'd have to keep the dongle thing, they are fairly heavy. its designed to bolt to the inside of the door, but has to be modified since our doors are much skinnier than the ford doors it is made for.

Define modified - my mirrors suck and I'm really interested in this, especially at $45.00

if I remember when I get home, I'll pull one off and take a pic of it, but it wasn't a big deal.

I just cut the dongle thing in the middle, then slid the free end back enough so that the overall length matched the width of our doors and bolted the free piece to the attached piece.

so you just basically folded it in 1/2 and drilled a large hole for it?

kinda, although it is made of something like pot metal, so folding wasn't an option, you have to cut it down.

afa the hole goes, yeah, put a hole in the outer panel for it to fit through, then a smaller hole on the inside panel for the bolt.

Pics.... If you don't mind.

I will let everyone know how the aftermarket ones are. They should be here Monday.

crap, I'll have to do it tomorrow. got home and realized some of my tools have been stolen, so I was a bit distracted today. >:(

thanks guys, didn't mean to derail the thread. thieves probably only got $500-600 worth of stuff, but it still sucks ass.

went out to try and take one off for ya today, but couldn't get it off. :(

they've been on there for 10 years and I needed someone on the outside of the door while I held the wrench up inside.

I was able to get a look at them though, so if you take a pic when you get them, I'll photoshop it up with what I did. :thumb:

wish I could be more helpful than that.

Received the mirrors today. I will try to remember to take pics and give a write up on the install. The mirrors themselves are plastic with the exception the base, it is some type of pot metal. I see how the dongle can be shortened. I think it is important to mount it through the door. The mirrors are kind of heavy. Plus anytime you forget to fold them in a tree on the trail will surely do it for you. The extra support will pay off.

right on. looking forward to it. will be interesting to see if you do it any differently than I did.

the only thing I remember having to watch out for was making sure I mounted them in a spot that the dongle (who decided to call it that? :D ) wouldn't hit the window, or the post for the wing window.

also, the part I had trouble with, afa taking them back off, was I just used a nut on the inside of the door for the 2 bolts that hold the actual mirror to the outside (and I couldn't reach them and the outside at the same time). it would probably be worth the effort if you have the ability, to tack those nuts in place so that you don't have to get a wrench up in there next time.

Have that problem solved already. Going to use these. They are called jack nuts. They work great. Drill proper size hole. Tighten them down and done! :thumb:

/sigh wonder how many times I did things the hard way because I didn't know about something like that. :(

:P

I don't think you guys need door pics anymore, but here are my mirrors and remaining holes from the smaller more attractive/useless mirrors.

What are the measurements on those, and can you see pretty well out of them? Those look nice, but I would still like a smaller base... I'm just a picky B****

If these didn't wobble I'd be happy as a clam at high tide. But that's not the case with 37" bias ply tires.

ahh, prolly not gonna cut it then... since I'm running 39" TSL's. The search continues!!!
