doubler help, PLEASE

Ok, may have a line on a 400 205 t-case. But, I need to know if it is the right one for use in a doubler set up. As I understand there is a long and a short.
Does nayone know what years the "good" short one came in? Or does the year not matter?

Long input was typically with the round pattern from '85 up. Short generally from '85 down with the fig 8 pattern. This may not be absolute, things were swapped a lot but that's the most common info.
