Well I just finished pulling my 203 out and putting the doubler together, it looks sick but im exhausted. Wrestling that 203 out was a pita and moving the doubler around wasnt the easiest thing. I was dreading that snap ring but with some badass pliers it was a peice of cake. My question is how did yall go about getting this monster back into the truck and bolting it up? I am hitting it first thing in the morning with a few guys but I am trying to come up with some good ideas. If it matters, I unbolted the cases from the tranny-tcase adaptor and left the stock crossmember in there so I can mock up a nice crossmember/skidplate.

thanks,
Joe

By the way, ORD the product in great and I am still in awe at the tolerances but the instuction booklet needs to be updated. If I would have had a computer to look at it would have been fine, but looking at the directions (I am pretty sure they are for the GEN1) it took me a while to figure out what to do with the aluminium dome. It shows pretty clear what do in the pictures, but If you are just reading through (as I was) it doesnt work lol. I dropped the adaptor/shaft onto the 203 with that aluminum dome and just kind of stood there haha.

I kind of cheated, I had the body off my blazer when I installed mine. I used a chain hoist to hold it and fabbed everything up. I looks good! I got the NWF one tho. I just got the body on today. lots of work to go...

ORD's never been good with instructions; products are great, but you end up having to call them on the phone with questions.

I used one of these

with a stack of 4x4's cut to maybe 18" between the seat and the doubler. Later I bought a real tranny jack, but this one get used more -- lifting bumpers, the double, whatever.

I Installed mine in the street, it was a one shot deal with the whole combo bolted up and installed as one piece. Used a nice tranny jack with a chain that goes around the case and bolts it down to the jack. Rolled it across the street carefully and put it under the truck and jacked it up and in. If i did this at my new house, id just do it tranny and 203 bolted up first and then mount the crossmember, then put the np205 at the end. If the 205 is clocked flat, its pretty easy to jack it up under there and line it up.

hmm well I wish I would have read this before I put everything together. I was hoping to do it today but we decided to go ahead and wait for the cable shifters to get in later this week. Me and my buddy are going to truss the unit together and make a bracket to bolt to the back of the 205 and run a crossmember in the back. He's got a CNC plasma cutter and all the goodies so we will see what I can come up with. I am going to make a flat plate that bolts the t-case adaptor and doubler plate together, this should make a fairly nice place to jack the doubler up into the truck, that and some grunt. Thanks for the tips too

I assembled the tranny, 203 and 205 under the truck...then used an engine hoist with a chain through the tranny tunnel and hoisted it up into place. Much easier and safer than using a floor jack and stuff.

Where are you getting the cable shifters from, NWF?

Not with a doubler but with many t-cases this is what I have done too.

Also several ratchet straps around the frame, 2 for pulling it up and 2 for holding. I have done that too.

Yeah i got NWF's triple stick cable shifters, actually suppose to arrive today. I would like to do it with an engine hoist through the tranny tunnel but unless I drop the tranny and mate it to the doubler I dont see that working.

A doublers weight is roughly centered around the adapter. YOu can put it on a piece of plywood and slide the floor jack under the plywood about the center of the adapter.

It should not be that hard to install then.

I use the overhead hoist at the shop through the roof and just drop the hole thing out the bottom

thats what I was kind of thinking, about the weight center. The way( or atleast the way I hope to do it) it should give me a suitable flat surface to place on to of a jack.

Copycat :waytogo: I did the same thing. Used my motorcycle lift with some various asundry wood items.

Yep, the motorcycle lift with some wood. I rolled the whole assembly under there and lifted it right up.

this is a big reason i went with a 231/241 doubler. i can lift both t-cases bolted together with just my arms. my trans is hella light too (t5), makes for a nice light weight drivetrain.
