Drac

Hey Russell, when you said you thought the top wire was for the speedo i'm assuming you mean the first wire that is in the connector which would actually be the second slot on the DRAC? I went back to the yard today and tried to chase all the wires and from the speedo head there is a blue wire which goes to the 2000PPM connector on the DRAC which happens to be the 2nd position/first wire on the module. The only wires I couldn't absoluetly verify are the 2000PPM brown wire, 128K white wire (ABS module from what i've read which doesn't apply to me since my 89 doesn't have ABS), and the 4000PPM brown wire. Do you have any idea where those wires go. I'm guessing one of them has to be for the cruise. Also the wire that goes to the ECM A-10 is that the signal wire to tell the ECM what's going on or is there another wire that goes to the ECM as well?

This should help.

Next question. I pulled my dash apart so I could see how many wires and their color going into the optic eye and I have a pink, black with white stripe and a brown in one connector and then a single wire connector with a yellow wire. Does anyone know which color wire(s) I should splice into for the DRAC?

The yellow should be your cruise control. The brown going to the ecm, the black/white a ground and the pink is an ign hot.

Thanks. I just came in from outside with my DVOM and checking continuity with my meter that is exactly what I came up with. I was trying to figure this out without having to tear my dash apart but at least now I know 100% for sure.

Sounds like you've got everything under control :D

Let us know how things go for you, and if you run into any grief with the pin out I've got. I'd like to submit this information as a technical article

Yep, everything is under control now as far as the DRAC system is concerned. This project won't go forward now until I buy the gauges and build my new bezel. I still need to figure out some wiring in the original cluster plug so I can keep the SES light, brake light, hi-beam indicator and any other light I may have forgotten is there that I need to keep for emissions requirements.

is this the brown wire your talking about??
it was connected to the heater, ac harness and i removed it all and now i don't have a speedo,, i'm trying to figure out if it's because i pulled te harness out or because i jerked some other wires loose doing it... this brown wire is now, not connected to anything.. did it power the ecm or drac?

That wire is not for the DRAC unit. There are 2 connectors going to the DRAC unit and one has a single blue wire and the other has about 6 wires and they are all 20-22 awg wires.

That brown wire is the power feed wire for your heater fan IIRC... I believe it is hot in run only, turns off when in the crank position. I hooked a TBI ECM's ignition feed wire to that wire in the fuse block by accident once... Pulled my hair out trying to figure out why the thing would communicate with my laptop when the ignition was turned to on, but wouldn't start unless I bumped the starter manually with a screw driver, at which point it ran great!
