one more stupid question. if i did buy a flattop knuckle, i would only need the pass side right? unless i wanted to do hi-steer correct?

Drivers side is already drilled and tapped, as your steering arm is bolted to it.

I always told folks steering was my favorite mod I ever did to any of my trucks. Well the proper steering at least.

Makes it drive better, it wheels better, more comfortable with the truck, etc, etc, etc.

thanks for all the help guys! anyone have a flat top knuckle for sale? cheap that is

You'd want to get both knuckles, the 76 and older D44 knuckles have the tie rod on top of the knuckle and the nut on the bottom, the 10 bolt knuckles (and '77 and newer D44 knuckles) have the nut on the top. If you only swap the one, your tie rod won't be level.

True sorry, I have always redone my tie rod at the same time and drilled the knuckles out for one ton stuff

Unless he gets the arms for both sides and goes high steer and cross over.

I was thinking he mentioned a flat top for 400 plus getting it machined. At that rate it makes sense to me to buy the new one, or even both.

or buy this....

use your setup that you have with the rod ends, and be done.

But its $365...

Thats almost half a Dana 60......

basicly all this boils down to a few points .

he didnt do a good search and find the info to make a informed purchase. also in a big purchase like this i would have took a long stick or string and checked how close it was all going to be to make sure it would be good or not.

and now he is trying to band aid the problem. will it work yes . for how long who knows ? all depeends on driving style and area's he plays in.

to do it safe and much better yes flat top pass side knuckle and a arm would be 100% better . as keeping a bar stright will be stronger than a bent bar.

also the aftermarket knuckles listed are great. but the prices are PER EACH KNUCKLE . and thay yes add a 4th stud/bolt hole for better strength on the holding power of the arm. thay are also beefed up in weak areas. i know a stock gm dana 60 knuckle is 10 lbs lighter than a reid/dedenbear knuckle. thats how much stronger thay build them.

buy the time you do all these knuckle swaps and machine work and stuff you can be 1/2 to 3/4 the way to a dana 60 and be done with it.

and who wants 100 to machine a knuckle is way off the price point. lots of places will do it for 50-70 . and the knuckle will fit in a flat rate box.

these are just my opinions on this and take them for what its worth. hope it helps someone.

yea im going to pnp tomorrow to get a knuckle and i will drill and tap it myself and use my draglink as it is.

It's not just a matter of drilling and tapping it. The knuckle first needs to be machined FLAT where the arm is going to contact the knuckle then the drilling and tapping can commence. :deal:

go for it do what ever you want.

we ( experts & 4x4 shop guys ) have been leading you the horse to water with correct info. but for some reason you dont wana drink it.

its steering dont screw around and short cut it. things will go bad for you or a passenger or spectator.

your profile shows dana 44 3/4 ton front now. have you even checked to see if you have a flat top knuckle on there yet ?
