Driveline binding while braking

Hello all,

I put my 4" lift (block rear) on my 87 k5. It came off a friends K5. When I put it on, I get a very bad driveline binding/shudder when I stop. It's definitely not brakes. I have changed the angle on the pinion, and I can stop the braking problem, but then I get a vibration problem. This didn't happen on my friends K5 when the lift was on his.

Extra Fact: My stock suspension had sagged such that when I put the 4" springs on front it raised my k5 6". My only guess is that my stock springs have sagged so much in the rear that it is causing the pinion to be at the wrong angle. That's just my best guess, because I can't think what else could be going on.

Anyone have ideas or experience?

Thanks,
Brandon

your probably getting a ton of axle wrap and you u-joint is binding. when you hit the brakes, the rear axle wants to point towards the ground and make the angle worse.

got any pics?

Sorry, I don't have any pictures. I could get some tomorrow. Would a new set of rear springs fix this problem?

Thanks,
Brandon

The other posts sound like the problem, just wanted to throw in to check whatever you have for a slip joint to make sure its not binding.

I don't have any type of slip in the shaft, it's just the splines.

What is a reliable source for rear springs. I noticed the JC Whitney sells stock springs, but I'm not sure if a spring is a spring is a spring.

thanks,
Brandon

Well, I bought my new front leafs from this outfit. They were a lot less for both springs than anyone else was for one.
I figured that since you get what you pay for, I was going to get junk, but the price was so good I had to try.

5 years down the road, they are doing great.
Their website is a little flaky, you might have to call or E-Mail them to get a price.

But after you do, check with the other places you are going to hear about when the other folks join in.

And, of course, mine was a Ford, so your mileage may vary......
