Driveline vibes...

Just for kicks, I'm going to take that rear shaft in today to be checked out. There's a shop nearby called "Santa Rosa Driveline", who specializes in these things. I found an interesting quote on their site:
"Some factory GM shafts come with glue in u-joints and when replaceing them the shaft balance changes because the u-joints are more accurately centered with c-clips."
What do you know... I've replaced both u-joints on that shaft. The old ones were the glue-in kind. They suck to remove!

I *finally* got my rear 'shaft to the shop last week. They looked it over, and turns out it was in pretty good shape, except the rear u-joint had some play side to side in the yoke, and they weren't happy with the amount of spline engagement at my transfer case. So now, I have a 'shaft that is 1 1/2" longer than the stock one, and a new rear joint for $100.

Cool shop, by the way, "Santa Rosa Driveline Service", in Santa Rosa, CA. Without even explaining the vehicle, they knew right off what they were looking at. They had the new 'shaft ready for me that same afternoon even.

So far it's smoother, but I haven't had a chance to get over 50 mph yet. I do still have to replace my rear axle shafts, which finally arrived, but I think the biggest problem was that driveshaft and slip yoke engagement. Something to consider I guess even with only a 4 inch lift!
