Hey guys, I installed an ORD high clearance cross member and race style motor mounts last week, went on an all day wheeling trip at Kansas Rocks Park on Saturday and a couple of times I noticed my truck sort of running away from me when going up steep rocks like I was pushing on the gas even when I had my foot on the brake. Seemed fine after I threw it into reverse or changed my angle. I noticed today my bushings on my motor mounts are smashed forward about as far as they could be. I think I must have pushed my entire drivetrain forward via rear drive shaft slip bottoming out inside my transfer case. How can I move my drivetrain back to where it was? nothing seems to be holding it forward now but my bushing is smashed to hell.

That's really bad if that's what happened. I would be checking the case for cracks.

If the bushings are.shot now then pull them out and.put new ones in and use a punch to line it up.

I know its really bad, tcase and tranny are going to come out to be freshened up soon, they both leak pretty bad. I just need to know if I should attempt to ratchet strap my drivetrain back into place before I pull my bushing or what. I had probably 3-4" of slip in my rear slip yoke before it bottomed out which looked like plenty since the pivot of the rear axle is the front hanger. I guess having a full size rig sitting on an incline and turning its tires pulled the axle in and forward enough. That's the only way it could have happned. I had just put a new throttle cable on and ran it pretty tight, I added some slack while wheeling to keep it from trying to run away but noticed the motor mounts during post trip inspection. I'll try to snap a pic when I get home.

I'd put something light on your slip yoke like marker and flex it out and see if it gets 'scraped' off by your slip yoke seal, that'll give you a good indicator of how compressed it is getting. Though that might not work if you don't want to wheel it before you fix it. I'd definitely do those mounts but you already know that much.

Dueling - yes I'm aware I'll have to do that, wanting to figure out how to pull my drivetrain back to where it came from.

Xeno - I'm already sure it's bottoming out, the throttle cable I put in from the fire wall to the throttle body was getting pulled tight (opening the blades) only when I was going up something very steep and driving slow (rolling my axle up under my rig, bottoming out the slip yoke and forcing my motor farther from the firewall). I'm going to order some more bushings in a few, I'm going to pull the tranny and tcase soon to freshen it up. I send the drive shaft off when I do that. I suppose when I do that the motor will go wherever I tell it when I put the new bushings in.

That's where I am getting confused, the only other mount holding my drivetrain is the transmission mount and there is nothing else pushing it forward. I don't understand why it didn't bounce back to where it came from. Exhaust hangers aren't strong enough to be holding it. I don't know, she needs some TLC anyways, I rode her HARD. Wanting to link the front, hydro steer, freshen trans/tcase, build new cross members and add a skid plate anyways. I'm a little frustrated with ORD right now. Anybody know where else I can buy my bushing halves?

Ok, now I'm really confused, drivers side is all smashed forward, passenger is fine.

Is the t-case mount good? (goes to movement) Are there marks on the driveshaft where it bottomed out on itself? Maybe it didn't. :dunno:

What about the t-case crossmember, does it install easy or do you have to push/pull/pry to line it up?

Any chance the frame is tweaked causing centerline of the drivetrain to be different than the frame?

On second thought, the frame half of the motor mounts are slotted iirc. Any chance one is line up just right and the bad one is not? Are you sure the good mount is tight and not moving causing the other mount to bind?

Is the frame square? Sometimes these frames have been known to get twisted and become "diamonded".

Is your frame bent? Kinda weird it's mostly on one side. Check the frame right around the rear shackle area....I've seen some bend and crack there.

Ugh... make sure your bellhousing is intact... When I broke a motor mount that was the give point.

It is possible to jockey the motor like that with a single stud tcase mount.

Transmission appears to be intact, no cracks in transfer case, transmission, or frame anywhere that I can find. I don't think the frame is tweaked because it doesn't look tweaked anywhere, my transmission crossmember and engine crossmember both triangulate the frame and the frame doesn't appear bent anywhere. I took a couple pics, can't remember how much slip my yoke has but it doesn't look like it went to far into the tcase at any point, at least by seeing where it's wet.

What I'm leaning toward is maybe my drivetrain shifted forward, one of the motor mounts moved and the other did not. They are slightly slotted but they were pretty hard to install. Not a lot if wiggle room. Not really sure though.

Have you checked to see if the bolts in the crossmember under the Tcase are not bent, or the mount didn't slip down in front of the crossmember and lock it in place? If so pushing up on the Tcase may free it up. Also check to make sure the crossmember isn't bent or loose.

I'm going to have to redo that cross member. The mount is loose and leaning forward (but no shift left or right), I've redone it 3-4 times already but that was with stock motor mounts. I'm going to build a bad ass one this time, add a rear cross member to hook up my traction bar and then probably put a skid plate across the bottom. I'm almost completely flat belly now, just need some protection around the transfer case.

Have you felt how hot that slip yoke gets with that crossover pipe near it? I had a problem with the slip getting "sticky" at times, that was caused by heat from the exhaust crossover. Mine wasnt near as close (what the pictures look like anyway) and the output would get very hot driving.

No but that is a good question, master overhaul kit will be here tomorrow for the transmission, I'm probably going to have the exhaust redone anyways because my mufflers are in the way of a crossmember that I need to add. And the ****ty flex pipe that I'm using to route through frame rail is...well...****ty. Good looking out!
