Need some advice here guys. I am going to be pulling the engine/trans/tc out of my Blazer soon. I am trying to figure out what the best way to do it will be. Pull them all together, engine only then tranny and tc lowered to ground. What do ya'll suggest?

My initial thought was to pull just the engine and the using a tranny jack lower the tranny and tc. How much would a 350/203 weigh?

Something like this:

I got the second you show when it was on sale. Honestly, you could do just as well with this one as it's cheaper...

and some scrap lumber. I used this and a stack of 4x4's cut into 18-24" lengths to pull my 203-doubler-205.

I don't see a tranny AND transfercase coming out the front ... with the front clip off, maybe, but the balance point is still waaay too far back. I pulled the 454 and TH400 out of my pickup last year, as one unit, and it was challenging to maneuver the things. (I left the clip on but took the radiator out.)

So, yeah, drop the t-case at the very least, but prolly easier to do tranny+tcase at once, balance somewhere around the foot (err, adapter.)

Then pull the motor out the front.

I think I will probably get the 800# tranny jack. I almost wonder if it would be best to just unbolt the crossmember and drop the crossmember/tc/trans as an assembly rather than trying to work the trans/tc forward enough to clear the crossmember.

I pulled my motor, th350 and np203 out as one unit with the radiator support off using a standard 2 ton engine hoist. Went easy, did it by myself.

I used a AutoZone lift plate bolted to the intake manifold.

Hmmm... Well I guess I could take the front core support out. I do have an engine leveler, I just figured that the combination would be too heavy on the ass end. But you say it went pretty easy, even doing it by yourself? Maybe I could do that.

i've done it both ways, but had a forklift available both times. it was easier though to pull it all out at once for me...for sure, i was by myself both times also.

Pull it all as one, then once it is out of the truck while it is in the air you can mount the assembly and pose for foolish pictures.

Depending on the level of rust you have to deal with and how much of a mess your wiring is it's a 4 beer job.

It's a horse a piece. What ever works easier for you and the equipment you have. Try pulling it out seperate, then put it all back in and pull it out as one. Then you'll know what is easier for you. HA HA HA. Just giving you $**T. As long as you don't mind pulling the radiator and core support, all in one piece is easier. It also depends on how much lift you have on your rig, what you're using to pull it out with, and how much ceiling hiegth you have in your garage.

Well I have a service truck with a boom crane on it if the cherry picker isn't enough so height is no problem just balance. I think I might just give it a try as an assembly and take the core support etc out

If you decide to go with a trans jack, go with the heavier one. I've never had any trouble with stuff from Harbor Freight, but I also go overkill, such as buying 6 ton jack stands etc.
