Drum to Disc Brake?

I’ve been doing power brakes with rear discs for 20 years. Means nothing.
It means.... my drums wouldn't hold.... my discs do. I can flat foot it from a stop and smoke both 37s from a dig but my rear discs work good enough to keep em locked up.

i no it’s been brought up a thousand times in other threads but figured i would say it again, when i converted to disc my 1/2 ton master made them mushy as hell so i upgraded to a 1999 C3500HD (with rear disc) master cylinder, and now they work great. this is all on a 1986 k10 with D60/14BFF

I’ve got no issues locking up the rears with my stock k5 master. I can’t imagine using a 1 ton master.

ya i’ve honestly heard everything from mushy and awful braking to rock hard and perfect braking on a stock master, i had the mush pedal, so i upgraded. it might be proportioning valve differences?..idk, just a guess.

Just food for thought. I found a 2004 14B FF complete axle, with e-brake and rotors/pads for $100. I think I put another 200-250 into it for new pads/rotors and some paint, and could have run it just like that. So, $400 for a complete axle with disc brakes already? easily replaced from the parts store, win-win.

This is the best way to convert to rear disc. the P brake is drum and shoe, is totally independent of the discs and calipers.

I love my disc brake conversion, huge difference in braking power and overall pedal feel, wish o could have done it sooner

K5 with big block nv4500 doubler one ton front brakes and jb6 rear calipers. Stock vacuum boost with the disc disc p3500 master with 42s. Oem prop valve.

Disc brakes also need to consider the whole truck package. With my 52 fronts, the front brakes would do all the work and the rears would lock up because the weight shifting to the front and the rears having little footprint to grab the road.
Swapped to a heavier spring rate 47s and that made braking more stable and put the more weight back to the rear tires again. Just body roll alone made rear disc swap appear to suck.

And yes stock jb8 drums are a great system. Imo, Retaine them if you're on the road more than not.
