Drum to Disc Rear Brake Conversion

Tried linking my pics up in my old thread but kept getting errors. But are the parts I used and I think just about every pic from the thread is still in my album.

Rotors for an 89 K1500 P/U (2)- #5977RG Checkers
Brake lines for calipers (2)- #4136847 Napa
Longer center brake hose- #4138068 Napa
Axle seals (2)- 16044 Checkers
Brake calipers for an 84 K5 front- 184208/184209

Thanks cwn anwyn, That's more like what I was looking for! trukker1

cwn anywn, when I tried to cross reference Checkers part numbers it comes up Checkers/Advance Auto but I need to know are the axle seals "spindle seals" and for a 1989? Are the brake lines all for a 1989 K1500 front too? I tried NAPA part numbers and didn't get anywhere with my search. Also, do you know if the Eldorado calipers will fit in place of the '84 calipers to have e-brake? Thanks.

ETA: Do I just need the outer seals?

I tried finding updated parts numbers without much luck. I couldn't get the old part numbers to come up or cross reference. But I went and tried to find similar ones that should work.

The brake hoses and seals were all pulled up for my 84 K5 and an older 12 bolt axle. So they would be specific to what your rig is.

The axle seal listed was for my 12 bolt that I had swapped in. When I looked up a mid 80s 10b rear axle outer seals, I ended up with part # NOS 16404. I'm not near my K5 to double check but maybe I had a typo in the original post, 16044 is awfully close to 16404.

The rest of the parts were K5 specific. I think the hoses were originally just replacement front hoses for my K5.
I think this brake hose is pretty close to what I used. Napa part # UP 38061. Looks like it might be a little longer than my old part number though. The banjo end has ears on it that might make it fit with the caliper better, and it has a little bit of hard line from the banjo which would have been nice. But the other end looks exactly like the old hose I used.

Just about any extended rear center hose would work for this. It wasn't actually needed in the swap since you are only adding the other hose from your axles hard line to the caliper. I only added it in my project cause my center drop line was stock at the time and about maxed out with my lift. So I figured while I had it all torn apart back there I'd just swap that in.

The rotors were the only K1500 specific part. They were 89 Regular Cab K1500 fronts. Then I had a machine shop open up the center a little bit to fit my 12b axles. I think the current number is: NB 4885977

I'm not sure on the Eldorado caliper when comparing it to a front GM caliper. I was originally going to hunt some down to swap in but now I am eventually going to swap in a different rear axle that I have that is already factory rear disc with e-brake and air locker.

Thanks. I think I can figure it out from here. I appreciate your help. The rotors seemed to be the key. Thanks again!
